New way to impost people, beware!

Today one of our customers got scammed with a new way of imposting. This method is quite convincing because the imposters let's you send a PM.

The imposter is added the victim on Skype making them a offer to buy Gp. In the meanwhile the imposters is adding the seller (us) asking if we buy gold. When rates and amounts are discussed the imposter is asking the seller to send a PM to the victim confirming trade. When received PM the victim is giving the gold to the imposter.

To prevent:
- Always right click on Skype address and compare with address on forums
- Ask copy of convo, read very carefully what's in PM
- PM each other when 2nd trade screen shows up
- If you sell gold, only let people PM you

I really hate the fact somebody is scammed thinking he was selling to us. Sharing this method will hopefully lead to less victims. If you have any thoughts how to prevent this please post.

I'm sure this method will cause more victims in the next days. Sharing this method to the public will attract much attention while showing others how to do it. When most of the people know it's not profitable to try this scam because many people will immediately block the imposter instead of losing their Gp's.

It's way better to act straight then doing nothing about it

I was hit with it shortly after I joined, and several failed attempts after that. Certainly not new at all, but a good refresher for people.

 

Someone tried to do it to me once like 3 months ago, but I noticed the guy requesting the PM wasn't the person I was supposed to PM indeed. It's been around for some time now.

People just need to be vigilant, and scammers will be non existent.

 

lol, somebody just tried it on me, I wasted his time a little and then told him to fuck off . The skype name was fury560

 

This happened to us the other day, luckily we checked the skype name to verify and it showed it didn't match... Also didn't help that the verification message they sent to us wasn't our conversation. It's important people are aware of these kinds of things!

I'm sure they happen everyday...

 

One of way o prevent it is to paste part of conversation in pm.

 

Some one tried to do that to me aswell his skypename is arcus_lil not the real one arcus_lili (notice the missing "i")
