TRACK AND FIELD. HELP PLEASE ! long distance running sorta

Hey so al my life i been a short distance running if you know anything bout track i always ran 100m, 200m, maybe 400m but ill prob end up jogging some of it :/

and i stopped track and field for like 3 years :/ but now im going back into it and i tried out for Discus which i lost interest in and i went to my coach and askked to run like the 200m but he told me flat out i wouldn't be able to compete against the other people there. cause ive been out for a while.

so he put me in 800m which is TWO LAPS around the track. And for a short distance sprinter this is hell on earth.. but i want to try my best i can make it one lap nice and easy but the second lap

    1) i get extremely tired and start jogging slow
    2) stomach cramp
    3) and my legs start burning

how can i get over this? i've been practicing daily is that just the best way ? Like i know for a fact the other runners going for 800 m at track meets they SPRINT the first lap then fast jog the second which i wont be able to keep up with at all...

    any help :S ?

You won't do good in the first 800m due to inexperience on running the race and conditioning.
Best way to train for the event is running 200m sprints. About 8 times, then a nice 1mile jog afterwards. Sprinting 200m as fast as you can, then walking 200m back to the start, then sprinting again without much rest. You want to get in the habit of running full sprint without burning out easy. Best strategy for the 800m in my opinion is to let the leaders out front within 5-10 meters...use them as a pacekeeper. Dont out run them, but dont let them break free from you. When you get on the last 200m of the race, kick it...Give it all you got and chase those leaders down and pass them if possible.

when I was training for the 400m, i just kept on doing 100m & 200m sprints then breaks, i also did long distance running for a bit - and kept a track on times I was getting. I also ran with other 400m runners too see the exact pace they kept and trained myself to run certain bits of the tracks at certain times

Shoot for a time that is about 2minutes and 5 seconds or less. But on your first race, 2 minutes and 10-15 wouldnt be so bad.
