Dear Sythe Users,


Today I am writing to you this letter for the first time in regard to a special event that is held at my school, Indiana University, called the IUDM or the Indiana University Dance Marathon. Since this is my first letter, I will briefly explain what the IUDM is all about. Indiana University Dance Marathon is an organization that was started to honor the late Ryan White. Ryan became a national celebrity and spokesman for AIDS when he was infected with HIV from a tainted blood transfusion. Ryan was banned from attending school and his family received death threats. Ryan passed away just months before he planned to attend Indiana University. Since 1991, the marathon has raised millions of dollars, much of which has built the Ryan White Infectious Disease Center at Riley Children’s Hospital at IU Health.
If you didn’t know, I am currently an Associate Member of for the Delta Chi fraternity at Indiana University. As an Associate Member, I will be participating in the IUDM in order to raise money for the Dietz family. For the past two years Delta Chi has been supporting this family to help their son, Hayden, 5, who was born with ALCAPA, which caused him to have a heart attack in his first few days of life. This led Hayden to have Mitral Valve Regurgitation, which calls for a mechanical valve to be placed in his heart. The goal for Delta Chi is to raise money for Hayden and his family so that they can financially afford Hayden’s surgeries and help him and his family enjoy healthy, normal life. a long well lived life.
My goal for this year’s marathon IUDM is to raise $500 towards helping Hayden and his family. Raising $500 dollars will allow me to participate in the IUDM on November 14, 15, and 16. During the IUDM we will be dancing consistently for up to18- 36 hours in order to raise awareness for this Riley Hospital for Children foundation. You do not have to feel obligated to donate, but know that it is going towards a good cause and a great kid. Any amount of donation is greatly appreciated.
