I'm an open minded agnostic. People should get to make choices like religion from birth and not forced into it. We shouldn't baby our children and trick them into believing in santa clause or the easter bunny either.

I hope this is in the right section.

Your parents gave birth to you, don't you think they have the right to influence you a little in what they believe is right?

It's traditions dude, and Agnostic is about Religion. Christmas over time has ditched the whole "Jesus" and just taken up a time of giving and caring about your family. It's all for fun in the beginning, and it is an attempt to keep your children in line.

Kids find out eventually, and it doesn't end them. It's quite clear currently that you probably bawled for hours on end when you found out, but it's something that makes an impact on everyone. For people who don't have much fun in their life, Christmas is always a chance to get out there, and with Santa all over the place, do you think your kid would be happier thinking they are mascots for the real one, or happier knowing that Santa isn't real and spoiling it for the rest of the children?

Everyone's an agnostic. If someone claims not to be agnostic they claim to know everything meaning they know nothing.

We don't "trick" them we allow them to live in ignorance for a short time because unfortunatly, the real world sucks. Atleast for a time being they can have this idea of an inherintly good man, magical in a sense, just going around giving out presents. We don't baby them we just enforce the idea to live in bliss while they can.

It's kind of like if you take a child in poverty and then a child in high wealth, they will act almost no different inately up until the age of like 5. This is simply because children don't differentiate situations as being good or bad if they have no bad to compare it to.

Everyone has been influenced and lied to. Better to build the skill of finding the truth at birth.

I somehow read the topic title as having something to do with Sasha Grey. I'm disappointed.

And Santa Clause is a good thing actually. It instills values at an early age. Just my opinion though.

Most kids will find out the truth, but pretend to believe for a couple more years just for extra presents.... I know I did haha

Same, lol. I think, I stopped believing it, when I was around 6 years old. My sister, who is 8, still pretends to believe it :p

    It's a psychological thing.
Isolating a four year old from any form of belief isn't exactly healthy for a young mind.

    Even if it's false belief.

I think it's good that children are told about santa and the easter bunny and stuff. The problem arises when the child is old enough to know something's not right but the parents continue the charade. You're there to teach your children, not blind them with ignorance and false information.

As for religion, it's natural for people to question religion. It helps them learn that everyone has their own beliefs and that they must learn to accept it.

The reason why some parents use Santa Clause is for disciplinary reasons. Combined with societies appeal to him.

The fact is that almost everyone in the world knows who Santa Clause is.

With that being said parents can use this as a disciplinary measure, eg. If you don't do this Santa won't bring you any presents this year.

This kids learn that giving is a good thing, the kids also learn to behave as well; and a simplistic version of you reap what you sow. You be bad you don't get presents, you be good you do get presents.

The difference between Santa and Religion is very very simple.

Kids are told that Santa is not real and fictional.
Kids do not get told that God is not real and fictional. And for those Christians.

The only difference between Santa and God is that God has a book written about him that you ask people not to take literally.

I think its odd how everyone here is 13+ and your talking about santa clause...

O/T: Youve got to beleive in something, why not Santa as a kid? It just makes things so much more special.

Agreed. Since they had the power to decide whether or not you exist at all, I think they should be able to influence what you think/believe in.

Excellent, so if they make you believe that killing is right, and blowing up buildings is something you should add to your to do list is right. Then sure I guess...

Santa Clause has nothing to do with Christianity, same with the Easter Bunny, there just fun things for children to believe to give them a sense of excitement and 'magic'. lighten up.

They way I look at it is that its good to have some sort of hope/belief even if it is misfounded. After all its healthy for a young childs mind.
