NFL Extends Madden NFL Exclusivity Rights

Formerly set to expire in 2012, Madden NFL by EA Sports has extended it’s contract for exclusivity to the NFL brand for yet another year. According to the Sports Business Journal Daily, this contract has been given an extension in preparation for a possible profits loss on the part of EA Sports, due to a lock out in the NFL, meaning there may be no NFL season in the coming year, however Madden will continue.

In light of recent events in the NFL, the move to compensate Madden for it’s possible losses feels to this editor that it may be a mistake on the part of both companies to accept the terms. In a year where an NFL season may not exist, a proper interpretation of NFL Blitz may have been the right move to keep NFL fans under 30 excited about the sport in the very extended off-season. EA may have also taken a loss in the deal, as a gamble could have proven to pay off better for the company. Take the loss in the current season, expressing your distress as the possible sales loss continues, and it is likely the NFL may have compensated for more than a single year, giving Madden the edge for at least a short while longer.

The question that must be had – When the reign of Madden Football ends, will a formerly major competitor step up again, or will titles only similar to Blitz make moves in 2013? Alternatively, as the contract gets extended, will companies like 2K consider moving ahead with UFL and/or AFL leagues

Honestly, Madden created by EA Sports seems to be doing a pretty good job with football games. I like the 2k11 series for basketball. As long as they don't get sloppy with the game play I think it should be okay.

All the games are pretty much the same anyway, just play your 1999 until they make the one for 2050, then get them mixed up cuz THEY'RE ALL THE SAME

The problem is EA can skimp on their NFL games since they don't have any competition. Let another company try, and the end result is a better game.
