Thoughts on this?

Does anyone think this will affect account sales? People selling accounts, Buying accounts and even accounts that have already been purchased?

Only info i've been able to find out about it, is that it works like a RSA token.

Also, I think it WILL affect trading, it all depends on how they introduce this system thoguh. If it means you can't change the E-mail, password or recoveries as easy then it may be a problem. Or if their system can detect when an account has been bought or sold and given to someone else, or whether it will affect gold transfers between accounts... if securities being bumped up then I think account sales will plumit definitely. I doubt it will affect accounts bought and sold previously because that'd be thousands, and It's really hard to tell whether an account has been bought or sold. IP addresses don't really mean much tbh unless the Original owner of the account tries to recover.

I hope it doesn't affect sales because I've recently got into that 'hobby' and I really enjoy it so I hope it doesn't affect me, or others too much.

 

Oh geez, then I hope my account sells on Playerauctions FAST. They stated that it's going to help against Phishing (Can't believe people still fall for this) and hijacking (which I assume will be the account selling part). They've already made the process in selling accounts a bit tad harder with the email, facebook, etc. but it still is easily do-able.

At a guess i would say the token is optional, and you have to purchase it if you want your account to be more secure. So it's not mandatory so therefore won't affect sales too much unless it has been claimed previously

 

I remember awhile back they had a poll asking if people would buy a usb stick that was some kind of device that would only let you login to your account if you had that or something along those lines. Is this going to be similar to that but not a physical object?

 

Can't see a RSA token being used. However, I have no idea what this extra security from phishes and hacks will entail.

 

What if you have the account guardian and you move?

 

If it works like a RSA token, would that mean that once you bought an account, the original owner wouldn't be able to recover it? This might actually help account sales

 

Never thought of it like that tbh, I just looked up RSA tokens as I didn't have a clue what one was haha...

But, I'd of thought that the original owner would always be able to recover the account back? IDK.

I hope it does aid accounts sales like you said as I would LOVE to carry on trading, would be a real shame if it totally crushed the market, and would probably crush a big proportion of Sythe too as hundreds of responses and threads are made each day in regards to account sales. Would be sad to see them die off :'(

 

If rsa token is implented it would be sold to those that wish to pay extra for there account security.

It wont be sent out to every person that creates an account as it costs 10$ or so to produce.

Meh, even if it isn't like a RSA token, I'm sure we'll be able to continue account selling/buying. Wow has a way better system to detect whether your account has been stolen or someone else accessed it. You can still buy/sell wow accounts though. I'm not too worried about that.

I definitely would love to be able to securely sell accounts and be able to guarantee the buyer that it will never get stolen back.

 

As long as you can access your account on another computer, I'm sure there will be a way to sell it.

 

I believe an RSA token is basically an authenticator. You have a different password everytime you log in.

 

It's interesting to see that this is happening, but I bet you it will cost a lot. Knowing the investors that now run Runescape, they just want to get money out of it.

 

As the same concept with boting, people will ways find a way to bot after the nuke along with sell their accounts no matter how tough the security.

 

Wouldn't be such a bad idea if I get it right. Account trades would be a bit more complicated, involving mail all the time, but illegimate recovering would become inexistent, and that'd be pretty awesome in my opinion.
