Look good on paper as of now, but same thing will happen like the 2004 Lakers team, or they won't even make the finals due to OKC.

Dwight should've went to them in the first place, from what I understand their depth isn't the greatest anymore.

Why do people think the Lakers are going to do well? They have no bench, besides the starting five, the rest of the team's talent level drops significantly. Kobe is coming off of his most inefficient season, he's been fine so far, but how long do you think he'll keep that up, and he's a shell of his former self. Same goes for MWP, who is pretty much useless now. Also, Steve Nash is 38 years old... he'll do well to some extent, but don't expect too much from him. Pau Gasol and Dwight Howard make this team, to be honest. Without them, the Lakers would look even worse than they already do, I hope Dwight's back doesn't cause problems during the season. Anyway, this is what a typical Laker fan tells me whenever I bring this up:

    1. Lol, it's only the first couple games of the preseason...
    2. Who cares, it's just the preseason?
    3. Lol, it's only the couple first games of the regular season...

What I expect them to say later on:

    4. Who cares? We'll own in the post-season.
    5. We'll come back even deadlier next year...

This team looks like trash, to be blunt, don't get your expectations too high.

kobe is only 34. that is in no means "old". people quickly forget that the '96 bulls, arguably the most successful squad in NBA history was lead by a 34 year old michael jordan who had one of his best seasons ever in '96. nash is the point guard answer the lakers have so desperately needed for years. they have not had a pure pg in so long and they dont need much from him, just enough for formidable p&r's with the 7fters and opening the lane + dishing for kobe. your body may age but your basketball iq doesnt and steve nash has one of the best ball iq's out. MWP had a very poor first half of the season last year but caught on towards the mid-end season. this was because of the lockout, the amount of spent on his strength and conditioning training was literally nothing. he put on 30lbs during the lockout offseason and shed it all and gained muscle mass towards the end of the season, he is definitely still a threat.

    their bench is

    Antawn Jamison
    Jodie Meeks
    Jordan Hill
    Steve Blake
    Devin Ebanks

Jamison and Meeks were both potent scorers at cleveland and philly respectively last year, and jordan hill was just fire towards the end of last year. blake is pretty meh, consistently mediocre, and devin ebanks is a work in progress but the ability is definitely there. hill, meeks and jamison would be starters on the low market teams

my only issue is whether all these stars can coexist, usually that's a coaches job but whether mike brown is capable of doing that, we'll see..

It's a Lakers championship this year.

I hopped over from Phoenix fan to Lakers because I want my dude Steve to get a ring. Good luck to them this season.

He's old in the terms of basketball age. I'm talking about Kobe Bryant, not Michael Jordan. If Kobe was doing what MJ was doing back then, I wouldn't have mentioned his inefficiency. Even if Nash is the PG you need, why aren't the Lakers fully utilizing him? He's playing off the ball so much, it's ridiculous. Even then, how much do you think a 38-year-old point guard can do? Don't get me wrong, you can still be a good player even if you're old, but don't expect rondo/cp3 performances from him. I realize he has a high basketball IQ, but so does Jason Kidd, I think he'll do well, but I doubt he'll be up there with the top PGs in the league right now. Oh, come on... MWP is not a threat, he is so useless.

In the first game, the Lakers' bench scored 17 points, the Mavericks' bench scored 37. In the second game, the Lakers' bench scored 15 points, the Trailblazer's bench scored 13 points. Now, the Trailblazer's aren't even a threatening team, yet they still lost to them. Now, the third game was against the Clippers, and they are actually a threat. The Lakers' bench scored 16 points, and the Clippers' bench scored 46 points.

Say what you want, but the Lakers' bench is terrible. They traded everyone for Nash and Howard. Even if they make the WCFs or the Finals, when the bench needs to step up, that'll be one of their biggest weaknesses.

By the looks of the amazing job Mike Brown has done coaching so far, it seems like he isn't.

P.S. If the Lakers lose to the Pistons today, then that is just sad...

Yeah, with the amount of talent they have they should be better than the sub .500 record they have.
