Does going to a unpopular college matter?

I live in PA right now and the nearest college to me for web design is about a hour from me and expensive as hell. nearly 50k for a associates.

I found a school near my aunt down in florida, literally a 5 min drive from her, and its right by Orlando. The problem is, the school has absolutely no popularity at all. I tried googling it and hardly anything comes up as far as student reviews on it.

Winter Park Tech is the name of it.

Anyway its only about 4k for a degree in web design. I am not worried so much about getting a degree, its getting the experience. As in web design you need a strong portfolio to succeed and to be honest you do not need a degree. So should I let it scare me off that it is not well known?

The main point of getting a degree is for the proof that you know what you're doing. Sure, the portfolio is the majority if your meat, but if there is somebody else out there with the same skill as you, and he has a degree while you do not, then he will be considered more than you.

If financial problems are your issue to going to that bigger school, then apply for aid and such. Try to get into that school around an hour away.

I actually have a friend that went to Winter Park Tech for graphic design and modeling and he loved it. To answer your question though, find out if the school is credible. If it is, then a credible school is a credible school. If you're not going to an ivy league school, it really doesn't matter where you're going.
