    Migrating to either Australia/NZ?

    Hello!

I've lived in Switzerland, Italy, England the USA so far and considering trying an Oceanic country next. I hold a British passport which according to my Dad means I can walk in and out of Australia, Canada and NZ as I please, how much of that is fact I'm not sure, he could be exaggerating the point somewhat but what I do know is they're part of the commonwealth. I'd quite like to try Australia out because I hear technologically they're lacking right now and it's a field I have experience in, if I was to attempt perhaps a short summer term in Australia, aside from money what would I be looking at needing to do? Would I still need a Work VISA and all that lot?

Hey there. As Nz and Australia are both part of the commonwealth it should be reasonably easy for you to do a working OE there. Basically though, New Zealand in fact is lacking more in experienced fields as people train up then go on their OE and simply stay overseas. I'd advise you not to come to New Zealand however, if you are talented, Australia could provide better opportunities for you as you are incredibly likely to get more $. You'll be more used to New Zealand's climate but Australia's is pretty decent depending on where you go.

I don't care a huge amount for the income, I'd like to pretty much support myself there in terms of food, drink, studio flat rental etc without having to dig into any savings, it's moreso for the experience! Thanks for the reply bro.

Well, Jack's given you the NZ perspective, here's the Aussie one ;)

Honestly, you'd probably be let in immediately (Assuming you don't have a criminal record or anything.) How long did you plan on staying in Australia if you came here?

You'll get a visa no problems then. At least from what I know.

With New Zealand still recovering from the recession (well everyone is lol) finding a flat would be no problem. If you managed to get a job in your chosen field you should have no problem supporting yourself on that. I'd say try and find a job prior to moving to either New Zealand or Australia however, just incase.

Yeah if I can't find the work prior then the plan is to maybe find a really short-term lease on somewhere, like 3 months and bring enough money to eat and live somewhere for those 3 months, if I find work - stay longer, get a longer tenancy or whatever, if not, move to the next country or go home for a bit ;)

If your planning to work, you will need a work Visa and if you come to Aus drop by the Gold Coast, the best place in aus :)

It might be a little harder to get a working Visa, they'll probably be confused as to why you're coming to the country for just a few months but still want to work.
