Mic PLugged in but it doesnt work

I'm using my parents computer and i'm trying to use vent but for some reason the sound card isn't noticing mic for some reason. This computer had vista pre-installed and we put XP on it so the on board sound doesn't work so my dad put in a sound card (Sound Blaster Audigy), I plugged headset in and the sound worked and I tried the mic and it doesn't want to work. I have the sound card drivers installed and everything. I check to make sure it wasn't muted and it isn't..... Any idea what can cause this? Don't make sense because the sound works fine.

 

The mic itself could be broken, very possible. Or you are plugging it into the wrong port. you might be plugging it into the headphones port..

 

nonononono listen to this bull shit.................. Creative being the dumb fucks they are decided to make the mic port blue instead of pink.............. ROFL took me a week to figure it out. FML FML FMLF FMLFMLFMLFMLFMFMMLFMLF
