    RAM

If it has good ram, the graphics card should be good as well.

Post the specs here and we can tell you.

Generally, the more you spend the more powerful the computer.

So, you want us to "adivine" somehow how good can be the pc by the looks? I don't really understand, post the specs and the look is nothing when it comes to powerfulness.

Heres my fool proof method to tell whether a PC sucks or not.

    >look at specs
    >go to the CORRECT section
    >post specs to someone who gives a fuck.

    Done.

All you have to do is check the Case, HDD, DVDRW, CPU and MEMORY.

If the system specs aren't ancient. Then the PC should be fine no matter what.

I'm kind of confused with OP, because you're asking how to tell if when a PC is bad or not? Do you mean asthestics? Or hardware wise?

Just get the spec information and go from there.

If the PC looks like shit, then it looks like shit?

Just make sure all the components are working perfectly.

How to Tell if A Comp is bad or good?

I think these may be some of the most ambiguous answers I have ever seen. The first thing you would have to do is some research. That's where most of the understanding of "good" specs comes from.

The places I try to understand are the CPU/RAM/MoBo/GPU (graphics card) and whether it has an SSD + HDD space.

Most of the time there are two different types of CPUs: The AMD series and the Intel series. Now, based on what you are doing and whose opinion you are getting you will get a versed and biased opinion on each CPU. I can't really go into a full lengthy detail because I have classes very shortly, but the short version is that both are excellent CPUs for different reasons. Again, you would have to do some research into the explanation and read multiple articles not just one. AMDs you're looking for a quad, hex, or octacore with power over 3.0gHz. Intel you would prefer a quad core with a minimum of 3.0 gHz.

RAM is rather simple: You should have DDR3-1333 minimum and if you are running Windows 7 or Windows 8, a minimum of 4GB with 8GB being comfortable for todays systems, and 16GB as being a strong amount for future (although DDR4 is coming out soon).

Motherboard: This one is something I simply research and probably not of much importance to you.

Graphics card: Again this one is a very biased and highly argued topic. Some people love the AMD graphics cards and some people love NVidia graphics cards. Both the R9 200x series and the NVidia GTX 700 series are good cards right now and can run almost anything thrown at them with medium to high settings. NVidia is preparing their GTX 900 series shortly so people will be looking to dump the 700 card off rather readily in order to purchase the new 900 card.

SSD/HDD: SSD is a solid state drive, they are quicker on boot-up and referencing/locating items than a traditional hard disk drive - a minimum I would look for on a build, although they are not necessarily needed is 64-128GB. That gives you enough room for your operating system and a few programs.

Since the SSD is not necessarily required, your base specs for a HDD is a 7200RPM - 1TB drive.

All of the above mentioned is for a desktop computer. Again, you have to do some research but the desktop should be based on those specs. If you are going for a laptop the quota changes rather drastically.

This guy is pretty much spot on.

Some things you don't HAVE to know about.

RAM - I wouldn't worry about the clock speed of the RAM you're getting, if it's DDR3, then you'll be fine.

Motherboard - None of the motherboard specs matter to you unless you are building your own PC. If it is pre build and all the parts fit then there's not much that a motherboard can provide you that you need to care about (aside from perhaps built in wireless or different ports or some features like that.

CPU - For comparing AMD/Intel, tbh just look up the prices. If they're similar in price they will be similar in speed. AMD will always be higher specced and perform less.
