Making the Adobe Photoshop CS3 Icon

Hey guy's today im going to show you how to make an Adobe Photoshop Icon. Also, if you insert a different text, it will make a good avatar!

    Procedure

    Step one:
Alright, to start open up Adobe Photoshop CS3
    [IMG]

    Step two:
Nextly, create a New Document with the following settings:

    Step three:
Thirdly, Press 'U' on your keyboard, and choose the 'Rounded Rectangle Tool'

    Step four:
Make a Square. To make a perfect square, press and hold shift while dragging your mouse.

    Step five:
Once you have done that, right click inside the square and press on the Make Selection bar.

    Step six:
When you do so, a little window will appear, make sure you have the same settings as I do, then hit ok.

    Step seven:
Color's. For the forground color make sure that the code is 269bff.

    Step eight:
Color's. For the background color make sure that the code is 00447e.

    Step nine:
Once you have done that, click on the gradient section in your tool box. At the top of the screen, double click on a gradiant, and make sure that it is on this one:

    Step ten:
Now, change the setting so it will be on the Reflected Gradiant box.

    Step eleven:
Once you have done that, go back to your box and drag from the top left corner down to about 3/4's of the way to the bottom right one.

    Step twelve:
You should now have the exact same box & color sets as I do.

    Step thirteen:
Nextly, right click on the layer, and go to Blending Option's. It is near the top. By doing this, we will be able to change the inside and contrast of the box & colors.

    Step fourteen:
Once the menu pops up, go to the Bevel and Emboss section, and make sure you have the exact same setting's on it as I do.

    Step fifteen:
Nextly, go down to stroke and make sure you have the exact same setting's on that as well.

    Step sixteen:
Nextly, we are going to edit the Gradient. Press on the colors in the menu bar to acces the editing station.

    Step seventeen:
Select the first box, or if it is not the first then click on the same one was I have.

    Step eighteen:
You should now have something that looks very similar to this:

    Step nineteen:
Add in a text. I used Arial, at size 105.

    Step twenty:
Now, go over to the layer section and create a new one. Make sure that that layer is selected. Then, go down to your box layer, and press CTRL on the thumbnail. You should have something that looks like this. I have highlited the spot that you should press while pressing CTRL on your keyboard in red.

    Step twenty one:
After you have done that, go back to the gradient section on your tool's, then back up to the editing box at the top. Select the second option, or the one that says 'Foreground to Transparent', then change the box on the right to the one that I have highlighted in red.

    Step twenty two:
Drag from the top left corner down to about half way. Your icon should now look like this:

    Step twenty three:
Now, get the circle marquee tool that I have highlighted in red for you, and make a similar cut out as mine. When it looks close to mine, hit delete on your keyboard, or right click and delete.

    Step twenty four:
This is the final step. Set the Opacity to about 47-70% - Your choice.
Once you have done this, you have just created your own Adobe Photoshop Icon! If you wish, you may use this to create an avatar for yourself, just substitute the text and color's.

Then, actually make something worth while. You can start off by completing my tutorial in the colour purple, and posting it here =].

Great guide. You cropped the pictures nicely and you have a nice layout to things. I will give you a 10/10 for this guide. Very useful.

Hm, it's an okay guide, would look a bit better if you feathered the last part by 1-2px.

The photoshop cs3 icons do not feature rounded corners or gloss... I don't see why yours does.
