Make it so I can't be tracked on my phone

So my dad thinks he's real funny and turned on the AT&T famymap crap. He can basically see wherever I am whenever he wants too.

I'm 18, so he shouldn't be pulling this or caring what I'm doing, but he says if he's paying for the plan he can do whatever he wants.

So, there are 2 ways to track people on a cell phone, gps and cellular triangulation. Gps is precise down to like 5 feet or something and cellular triangulation is within like a mile.

The thing is, is that I'm rarely where I say I'll be, and I don't want him knowing that.

So will airplane mode do it? Or do I have to just shut my phone off?

 

If your phone isn't broadcasting on the network he can't track you. Airplane mode will do.

 

I believe aeroplane mode works fine since it doesn't broadcast. Or if you can spend a little bit of money I recommend getting gps cell phone jammer. Like this one.

 

It's pointless to restate exactly what I just posted. It's even more pointless to suggest for someone to jam their own phone signal.

 

It's even more pointless to post what you said, I was trying help him. Yes I said the same thing as you but I was trying to answer the question. For the signal jammer I was providing another solution to his problem. What is wrong with the suggestion of the signal jammer if it might fix his problem of his Dad not knowing where he is?

 

Cant you just remove the programme from your phone? Or just do Airplane mode that will do the job .

 

Reinstall the firmware (software) on your phone?

This makes no sense. I understand you want to seem like you know what you're talking about, but you obviously don't.
The tracking program isn't an app or anything on the phone It doesn't need to be installed. AT&T's technology allows them to see where any phone is, if it doesn't have gps then they can pinpoint it within a mile using cellular triangulation (the nearby cell towers all are connected to your phone, and based on the reception quality from each one, they can tell where you are within a certain radius).
Also, I have an iPhone. Not that it matters.

Read my freaking post. My dad says if he's paying the bill (Which he is) then he gets to do whatever he wants to the phone plan. He said he doesn't care if I get my own phone plan, but I don't feel like paying for something that I can get for free.

This is also a wake up call for everyone <18 on this forum. Turing 18 isn't fun or anything, it sucks. Unless you're moving out of your parents house, nothing changes, except you can now smoke cigarettes. But you can now go to jail for pretty much everything you used to get away with.

We don't have these kind of stupid plans in out country....i don't even think it's allowed here....because of privacy concerns.

 

this is the best answer in this whole thread in my opinion. Wrap your phone in brass mesh such as this

the mesh reflects the radio waves and such. when you wanna make a phone call, just take it off

Turn off wifi and yes, airplane mode should do it. There's a reason he installed that crap, you yourself admitted you don't tell him the truth about your whereabouts, but none of my concerns.
