Collecting up stockpiles of crazy free exp is "just what runescape doesn't need". Just as it taking forever isn't really all that fun, gaining exp that fast isn't fun. If you want maxed everything with not much effort, there are pservers for that.

This is a grindy game anyways, so it's nice that they are starting to make alternatives to the usual grind(by that I mean trying to add different, more fun methods, like The Pit).

This needed to happen, not enough people were actually training the skills as intended, all they did was stock up on these during combat for free exp in everything else.

Meh..effigies are sort of bs anyway. See people with 99 RC that didn't even train the skill. That is ridiculously stupid.

I have to disagree with you man. There are tons and tons of ways in the game to gain experience without actually training a skill, like just about every single event in the Distractions & Diversions thing.

People often work very hard to collect effigies training combat, and in turn they use them to train skills that are ridiculously boring and slow, such as runecrafting. If you put in all the time, effort, and cash that is required to recieve enough effigies to actually make the experience count, then I think you have every right to use them to train those skills that make you want to bang your head against the desk like RC.

Who's SUOMI?

SUOMI is the number 1 player in Runescape right now and is completely maxed out. His current goal for the last few months has been trying to achieve the first player in Runescape to achieve 5 billion total exp (200M exp in all skills).

Up until this update today, SUOMI spends about 10-12 hours a day cannoning monstrous cave crawlers in the Pollniveach dungeon, as they are one of the best effigy drop rates in the game. He then uses the effigies to put into his skills to save him time & effort in training the long and tedious ones. In the process of doing this, he is also going for 200M attack, strength, defence, constitution, and ranged exp. He also estimates that he will collect enough charms at the cave crawlers to get 200M summoning exp.

Whether or not he will continue doing this now, I do not know. If the drop rate isn't reduced TOO greatly at the cave crawlers, he could still simply farm 5 effigies at a time and use them right away (which is what I think he does anyways).

I agree with Jagex on this one, they are being used like they were never intended to be. They were supposed to be a little pick-me-up every once and a while while killing things, not the new power-trainer.

And Zerker, I respect you disagree, but it's not like effigies have been wholly eliminated. I got plenty when I trained Slayer, so personally a fewer amount is smart, because frankly having people in the high scores ranked ahead of me in RC just because of effigies and effigies alone is NOT what they were meant to do.

Also, you cannot honestly tell me racking up 1 million xp in RC in effigies is harder than 1 million xp in RC. I gotta make over 100k ess into runes just for 900k xp lol. ZMI was bad enough, effigies are just too common. Or...rather, were too common. Add onto the fact that you're getting combat experience, other skill experience, AND runecrafting experience all at the same time. That is not a grind, that is flat out cheap..it is easy as hell to train combat skills compared to others.

While the Emperor Nero guy complained about Runescape being a grind all I have to say is "paleeeease you cannot be serious" because back in 05 this game was a grind on steroids my friend. It is sort of a joke how easy it is nowadays.

The drop rate has also been decreased though, so the chance of even getting an effigy drop in the first place is much rarer now.

As for not being able to stockpile, that really all boils down to personal decisions. Personally, I like to horde my effigies and use them all at once as it makes quite a noticable difference in your exp gain. For example, gaining a couple of levels in one go.

Technically you are getting the exact same amount of exp if you just use the effigies as you get them, but I don't find its as noticable for me if I am getting 20k exp here, 10k there etc. I would rather save them up and knock off 1m exp all in one go.

true, but from personal experience, i got 98-99 herb free off effigies all at once, and imo, jagex did us a favor, i spent countless hours trying to get all of mine assisted, now i can horde 100s and waste even more time trying to get them assisted, and getting nothing done.

As annoying as this update is I think it needed to be done. People can get a rate of around 1 effigy an hour at cave crawlers which is pretty insane if your maxed and do all the effigies yourself and then use the lantern. Ganos were also amazing at dropping effigies if you have 95 slayer.

...and especially seeing as how the majority of players favor combat over non combat, these put it even more in their favor. "Hey, let's just train up our fun combat stats and slayer while we use all this free exp so we have to do almost nothing else.....weeeeee"...seriously? I'm not saying they should be taken out completely(although it would be nice, imo), but they finally cleaned up this mess a little by lowering the rate and such, people were gaining an insane amount of them.

About time they are helping us tone down "combatscape".

Heres the funny thing though... you get the SAME amount of experience whether you use your effigies as soon as you get them, or whether you use them all at once. I have 22 effigies in my bank now (a bit less than I originally thought) and its taken me about a MONTH training Slayer every single moment that I've been on RS to amass those effigies.

Whether or not I used those effigies one at a time the way Jagex intended it to be, or whether I saved them up the way that I have to use them all at once, really makes no difference in the end. If anything your level in the skill you choose to train via effigies is going to be higher over time if you don't wait to train it completely with effigies, and therefore you will actually be getting more exp per effigy than you would from using them at a lower level.

As for your post Mets, I never once said anything about obtaining experience through the use of effigies being "harder" than training the actual skill itself.

My point was that normally, training a skill such as RC regularly is a BETTER alternative than using effigies purely to train that skill. Why? Simply because obtaining effigies is hard enough as it is unless you are farming monsters like ganodermic beasts or monstrous cave crawlers with a cannon, or killing glacors relentlessly, or Nexing constantly. Effigies drop pretty inconsistently as it is, if I get 2-3 effigies in one week that is a really good Slayer week for me, and at my current RC level, 2-3 effigies barely gives me shit for experience.

Obtaining enough effigies to actually make a HUGE difference in the amount of RC exp you were to recieve, you would need to spend dozens of hours, and millions and millions of GP in cannonballs/runes for glacors etc. to actually be able to amass enough effigies that you would be able to make them count. Or you could do it the "slow" way and naturally save your effigies, but this would literally takes months of gametime.

A skill like Runecrafting is literally a hellish experience, it is by far one of the slowest and most boring skills ingame and for most players it is an absolute nightmare to train. However, people still often train Runecrafting anyways because its a good money-maker and so it sort of balances itself out if your sole purpose of training the skill is not just to obtain level 99. I think options like effigies, experience lamps etc. give people a great alternative who do not wish to spend months of their time running back and forth between an altar, getting a few hundred exp each trip.

Therefore, in my opinion, I believe players like SUOMI who spend countless hours, and countless millions, to obtain enough effigies to actually give them a significant gain in experience, are completely deserving of that experience. Not to mention somebody like SUOMI is going for 200M RC exp, and already trained to 99 legitimately.



PS. its like 6am for me right now and I just woke up. My brain is sort of scrambled right now and I don't really feel like I did a great job in explaining what I mean, but that will have to do for now. If there is more confusion I can rewrite my argument later after I've had my coffees :laugh:

I know you need to go through many assists to open then, but people only stockpile them so they can a hard 99 very fast from a lower level I believe.

Obtaining a 99 from a low level would take hundreds of effigies though, which would take FOREVER to obtain.

Also, I completely missed the fact that if you do not have the correct levels to open effigies yourself (such as me), then you have to spend an additional massive chunk of time running around RS getting all the assists you need to open them.

These are all reasons that I think Jagex should have just left effigies alone, and at the very most, capped the amount you can have in your bank at one time. But why did they have to go nerf the drop rate? The drop rate already sucks as it is.
