They have excellent battery life and overall are good notebooks, I'd honestly get it if you don't mind using a mac.

I've never really used a mac though, would it be good to use runescape on?
    My old laptops overheat?

yeah it'd be fine for runescape.
I'd go for it if you feel up for spending an extra 10-20 minutes learning how to navigate a mac, :)

Depends on your major, as a junior in college I've noticed that Mac's are friendly among the journalism and different art majors. Although, certain software such as calculus homework software is only available on windows operating system.

Your choice should depend on what your planning to use the computer for, and what software you will actually use. Runescape will play fine on any computer you choose.

id personally suggest just a normal windows laptop, with a brand such as acer or something as i find apple laptops to be greatly overpriced :L but if your parents are paying for it just get what you want and what'd be best for your course :)

This. If its anything technical, you are going to need a PC. If its liberal arts or something that doesn't need a computer for anything but research and notes then a MacBook will be fine. If you want I can find you a couple of good Windows laptops you can look at.

If he really needs windows, dualboot with the mac osx, macbooks have some of the best battery life in notebooks and it'll be good if he can't charge it during class.

Check with the school you're going to.

I know that the Engineering Major for my school doesn't allow you to have a Mac because the software they use isn't compatible with a Mac.

The same may be true about Biology since you have to do labs and stuff like that which may require you to have software installed on the computer.
