Your thoughts on the new AMD Radeon HD 7970 3GB

Personally, I believe this is the true Christmas Present for Gamers.

According to TH it's just below the gtx590/hd6990 and above the 580/6970 by a large margin.. For the price tag, it seems like an excellent single GPU money sink, but I'm waiting to see some more reviews and benchmarks first.

 

Wait for the Nvidia series to come out shortly, before you choose IMO.

 

That will probably be six months at the earliest, lol.

I'm pretty impressed by the performance tbh, but I am kinda disappointed in the pricetag. It's actually appropriate for the level of performance it offers, but I was hoping it would be in the $400-$450 range so prices on the 6900 series would come down

Now I doubt they will because the 7900 series targets an entirely different segment.

 

Agreed, since it's basically better than a 580 and still a single GPU chip, the price is fairly reasonable. Just waiting for a twin frozr or direct CU version, probably later next year, then I might just jump on it..

There's a crossfire review up on hardwareheaven, which looks promising so far, considering still early beta drivers for the card. I do expect the performance to increase with updated drivers, which are inevitable.

 

Just another step in my opinion. There will be many more to come in 2012 that will no doubt exceed anything to date in performance. I'd still like to have one though.
