People to People China trip?

Hey, today I received something in the mail. It's from the People to People Student Ambassador Program. It seems I've been selected to go along in 2009 to China. I don't really have any idea on what it's about. So I can't really decide to go or not, from what I understand, it's a service learning project, but we also go site seeing etc. I'd still get all my High School credits, and the trip lasts 17 days. Anyone have any info on it that could help me decide weather to go or not?

 

Why wouldn't you want to go?

 

I'm not sure, it's just that I'd like to see if I can find out anything else before I make up my mind.

 

what are the costs involved?

 

I'm not sure, I was hoping to find out if the people here knew any of that. I went to the website, and couldn't find any info on it.

 

honestly i would say it would cost several thousand

 

I went to hwaii in 05 and it was alot of fun. you get to meet new people and most of the time you do whatever you want, it is a little costly but fundraising raised almost all of it minues the spending money for me. So i'd say take the oppurtunity.


ps the trip to hawii was 7g's

its also something you can put on a college transcript and it gives you one highschool credit in geography or something...

 

well if you were chosen they shouldnt make you pay because then anybody should be able to go

 

trust me bud i went there last year. it was a lot of fun i actually made a really good friend over there in Xian china(thats where the homestay is) and we are still in contact. trust me and go its pretty expensive i think its like 5 or 6 grand, but you can do fundrasing and also ask people like friends parents and also some local business and your church might give you some. and you make a lot of friends in the state. i actually met three dance girls from california got there numbers and all, but sadly i dont live in cal. live in MD. oh did i say this already GOOOO!!!!

These type of companies make you feel good by saying you are so smart and that you were "chosen" to go there, but they are just after your money so if you can somehow raise it or if your parents are rich, then go ahead.

 

Ok thanks guys, forget it then. 6 grand is a lot, plus I don't feel like fund raising.
