How to : Clean Your Keyboard

    HOW TO

    Clean your keyboard.

    1. Why ?
    2. What do I need ?
    3. How should I ?
    4. What after ?
    5. Ect.

    Why ?

A lot of people have dirty, messy keyboards. I, personally, find that disgusting. I believe it's safe to assume that many Sythe users are on there computers for a notable amount of time each day. This means that you're using your greatest tools, your hands, on what could be a filthy keyboard. You interract with people, items, and yourself with your hands, and that sure won't be a good thing if they're dirty.

Clean / dirty are, respectively, subjective things. One may say, "This is clean!", while another would say, "This is dirty!". Well, here are some examples.

    A clean keyboard :

    A dirty keyboard :

And now I hope you understand my reasoning, and my definition of clean and dirty. The second keyboard may be harmful. For example, I have a little sister named Jade. Now, we hang out a lot, and do what siblings do. In the mist of events, I may take her hand, or any other physical contact. Now, germs spread, and if it just so happens that my little sister gets sick because she was exposed to the germs on my hands that I obtained from a dirty keyboard, it wouldn't be good.

This also helps if you're in a living environment with more than one person who uses the same computer. It would be fairly easy for germs to spead from one to the other, and having a keyboard as a middle man is just one more thing no one needs.

    What do I need ?

The hardest things for most Sythe users is money. I'm a witness. Purchasing cleaning supplies can be difficult, so I'm going to make two parts. One for items to purchase, and another for house-hold items laying about.

    For purchasers:

    1. Compressed air

You can get compressed air at almost any wal-mart, and/or general store. It doesn't cost much. Often less than 4 or 5 dollars.

    2. "Upside down Co2"

Also at almost any wal-mart for the same price. It's a can that can be used for cleaning almost any surface, and when turned upside down, becomes Co2. Usually by the electronics in wal-mart and any other convience store.

    3. [Default] A soft rag

Self-explanatory. You want to use a SOFT rag for it's ability to easily pick up dust/dirt/grime. Hard rags simply scrape across the dirt.

    For non-purchasers:

    1. Any household product capable of succesfully cleaning plastic

If you don't want to purchase any high-quality cleaners, house-hold items can also do the trick. "Orange", windex(It actually works), and even water can be used to clean it. Of course, we won't be pouring any of these things on the keyboard, but that's what the soft rag is for.

    2. [Default] A soft rag

Like before. Make a part of the rag damp with the item of choice.

DO NOT WET THE SOFT RAG YET!

    Computer Parts MANUAL:

If, by some weird chance, you kept your manual for your computer parts, check the keyboard section for instructions on how to clean your keyboard. Very important, indeed.

    How should I?

    1. Shut off your computer and disconnect the keyboard from the computer.

    2-1. For "purchasers",

Take your compressed air or "Upside down Co2" and spray, at an angle, between the keys. You spray at an angle so the dust and whatnot can be removed. Spraying down on it won't get you anywhere.

    2-2. For "non-purchasers",

Take your soft rag, damp it lightly with your cleaner of choice, and gently wipe the keys down and in between. Make sure you definitely get in between, as dirt has a habit of creeping it's way onto the top of the keys.

    3. Turn your keyboard over and shake.

Not too hard. Gently, if you can manage it.

    4. Whether you're a non-purchaser or not, again, take the rag, spray a small amount of water or some other cleaning fluid on the rag, and wipe over the keyboards keys.

    What after?

    1. After this is done, and you're sure you did a good enough job to where if a random person came and typed on your keyboard, it would do no harm to that person, you wait. In a couple of minutes, your keyboard will be dry.

DO NOT PLUG THE KEYBOARD IN WHILE IT'S WET/DAMP!

    Ect

Make sure not to spray into the keyboard with anything but the compressed air for purchasers.

Considering the fact that this guide circles mainly around 'purchasers', their keyboards will naturally be cleaner than the non-purchaser.

For both purchaser and non-purchaser, I don't know how much to stress not to make your soft rag TOO wet, or else the liquid will flow into the keys, and all will be ruined.

    Hope this helps someone.
