What is Ventrilo?

Ventrilo is a free, downloadable program that allows you to talk to other people via microphone and chat box across the world. In Ventrilo, you can connect to many different servers. It could be your own or maybe someone else's. Thousands of people use Ventrilo and whether you have a microphone or not, you can still join in and have fun. So if you are one of those without a microphone, don't think you can't use the program, there is a perfectly fine chat box in Ventrilo for those without microphones.

How do I Download & Install Ventrilo?

Downloading & Installing Ventrilo is very easy, just follow these simple steps.

Download: Ventrilo Download

Go to that link and once you are there, under 'Client Programs' choose your desired system and download Ventrilo. Once downloaded, go to the directory you saved it to and double click on the icon and it will begin the installation process.

How do I use Ventrilo?

Note: At the end, I will do a picture version on how to set up and use Ventrilo, so if you are stuck on this bit, you can use the pictures for further help.

Once you have installed Ventrilo successfully, go to where you installed it and open it up. Once opened, follow the procedure below to get started.

1. Making A User Name - 'User Name' is at the very top and to the right of it is a little ->. You need to click this arrow. Once a box has been opened, click 'New' and choose your desired name. You can have anything you wish. For 'Phoenetic', 'Description' and 'Work Dir' you can just leave it blank. After this, click 'OK'

2. Connecting To A Server - Under 'User Name' at the top is 'Server' and to the right of that is another ->. Click this once again. Before proceeding, make sure you have your desired server details so you can connect to it. Once in here click 'New' and put the name of the server you have details for, this is just to remind you what server it is as you may add multiple servers in the future. Once done, put the IP of the server you wish to connect to in the 'Hostname or IP' section. Also put in the port number for the server you are connecting to in the 'Port Number' section. If the server has a password, then you would put the password in the 'Password' section. If not, then you can click 'OK'.

Once this is all filled out, you can press connect and finally connect to your desired server and use your microphone or use the chat box to talk to others.

On the right of Ventrilo there is a tab called 'Setup'. You may need to use this for a variety of different things. If you get stuck, you can search it on Google or ask someone in the Ventrilo server you are in.
