Alright sooo, basically I have been wanting to get into marketing more and more over the last few years, but don't want to deal with general studies courses. I really didn't do well in shcool but it was mostly because of my terrible ADHD and just not being able to stay focused on anything I wasn't even slightly interested in.

I'm really not sure about where to start with like online courses, or maybe some type of public college course to take...

I have a passion for esports, and would really like to work for any company within.

    __

I have been with arbys now for going on 6 years, and honestly would like to stick with a company I have already worked for for quite a while now, and with their involvement with eLeague CS:GO it just seems like a perfect opportunity to work my way into some kind of dream job working for a company I support.

I have talked to a couple people that are already in the industry, doing marketing and they said that for gaming/esports related marketing jobs it's best to focus on Business to business marketing (if that helps, helping me at all)

thanks in advance for any input

I mean, starting your own company is a great first step, even if its just doing small amounts of sales, the experience and trying to grow it is important.

College for sure another excellent option to pursue marketing.

my only thing is I really have no interest in doing general studies, is there any form of college where I would be able to just study things to do with marketing? I have quite a bit of money for college as well

Honestly, I think if you're serious about marketing then you should learn it on your own. Going to college for 4 years will only get you a piece of paper. 95%+ of the material you learn will be useless in your day to day life as a marketer. Colleges usually don't go in-depth on specific marketing channels like Facebook Advertising, Google Adwords, SEO, Email marketing, Social Media Marketing, etc.

If you want to get serious about marketing, pick a channel and become an expert. I suggest SEO, because you can do it without necessarily spending money. For Facebook and Google Adwords, you need an advertising budget to do real work. With SEO, you can practice and work on it without having to spend a dime.

To start, you'll want to do a ton of research on SEO. This is a good resource: Search Engine Optimization: The Latest SEO News • r/SEO. Sort by top posts yearly / all time and there are some great guides for starting out. Understand that SEO and online marketing in general are highly competitive fields. You'll need to spend hundreds of hours reading and practicing before you are qualified to even think about asking for payment.

But once you've put in your time and actually applied your learned knowledge a bit, I'm sure a website here on Sythe would be interested in hiring you in a very limited format to do some SEO work for them. You'll need to work on selling yourself as well. Marketing yourself is just as important as marketing for your client. You need to realize these businesses are looking to make money, and that's it. They don't care about your life or your hardships. Explain to them why your marketing abilities will make them money. Not in a general bullshit way, but tailored to their business.

So if you're serious about pursuing this, understand it will be incredibly difficult and you'll be competing with people who want it bad. There's some hungry marketers out there who are putting in the hours and learning every day. If you want to get clients and eventually work for a large company in a marketing position one day, you'll need to be amazing at what you do, and also be able to market yourself.

Not in anywhere near enough detail for you to do anything with it.
