Master Yi

I used to play Master Yi back in Season 2 well before people were playing him as AP. Since the update I tried to play him as AD again to see if the changes to his abilities have made him stronger, weaker, or if there's still a good balance.

After playing him, I feel he still has a good balance, despite my distaste in some of the changes Riot made.

 

What are you in? Bronze/Silver/Gold?

 

Ye Yi still has a pretty good balance its just before the update he could basically ACE a full team wile building AP now he is more balanced and take down able. Still a very challenging character.

Everygame i've seen a yi he has the most kills of everyone.

 

What I meant is for his kit it's pretty balanced.

He's still very easy to kill and really only overpowered when the entire team is nearly dead. If the enemy team gets fed or builds Warmog's, Master Yi will have a difficult time doing anything productive.

He brings a good balance to the team, although I heard Riot is re-working him (haven't seen anything to confirm this yet).

 

I believe the last update was the rework. And Yi isn't really Over-powered. CC and Thornmail is hard counters.

 

Yi isn't OP but people still can't realise that he's being picked at ranked games and they just ignore him. That's why he can ACE enemy team - he's not CC'd so he can freely jump from a target to target. If he's stunned, focused and silenced during his meditate, he dies really quickly.

 

He's not super strong, he's just receiving a ton of attention because of the rework. Plus there are many people who simply have no clue how to deal with him

 

After the update I cannot tell when Master Yi Ults its so weird but also deadly because you cant see anything.

 

I personally think the new Yi is a lot stronger. Mainly because of the resets. Any champ with resets is of course going to be strong because it allows you to get back into the fight again.

He's not overpowered in any way, but I do think the changes he got were a bit much. They pretty much made him an AD caster, but allowed him to reset his cooldowns on his main damage ability in two ways which is too much if you ask me. With high attack speed and CDR a Yi can literally play like AP Yi but have a lot more killing potential overall instead of simply being cleanup crew.

But from an overall standpoint he's still easy to deal with. A hard CC or snare and a frozen heart.

 

After the update I have been KOing master Yi with Taric every time I play him. Its like they have made it to where he is just not good anymore in my opinion the only reason he is I guess a bit decent is because his speed and durability. You cant even see when he is Ulting that's the bad part.

 

I played the old yi ad a lot and i liked the old e skill passive more

 

I didn't like him from the match I played lol but then again I was like wait wtf is this... so I didn't know what the new abilities were about.

 

He seems pretty good with a fair kit but it's like Riot said, he is just too good at stomping on lower skilled players who don't know how to counter play. Which is why I believe they are reworking him again already.

 

His previous E passive was too strong early game, with double strike ready I could almost one shot mid champion while jumping on him with Q and activating E. Now he's scaling better during end game and he can handle against armor-stacking champions.

 

Wouldn't be the champions fault because unskilled player do not know how to counter.

He was way to strong early game.... as I have been playing today it seems that he is weaker end game no idea if because of the update that players are building him a bit different or what but it just has seemed like that but he is still pretty OP early game IMO nearly taking half champions health early game with his Q.

 

You are probably in bronze if you can pick Yi every game he is perma banned in diamond/plat. And that build is terrible you have a lanturn and no Botrk, you have dancer over static shiv.

Every single person who says he isn't broken or has viable counterplay is terrible and will never get out of silver. There is no viable counterplay to Vayne or Yi right now.

Lets look at what beats Yi

Trynd beats yi in a 1v1 but in a team fight you cannot really focus Yi he just spams q going untargetable and spamming on everyone getting resets all he needs is one opening to get 1 reset then will just spam all his shit.

Armour stacking Don't make me laugh not only will his whisper eat your armour his true damage per hit is second only to vayne late game not to mention even if he cannot kill your tank easily he focuses your whole team at once.

Exhaust/Omen these do nothing to him when he has his ulti on.


Only Counters to Yi I have had success with

Lulu (Dat Polymorph & ulti) & Heimerdinger (dat blind)

Honorable mentions

Thresh can sometimes slow down a Yi from raping your team if he lands a nice hook or flay but this is a big harder then it sounds.

Janna - Sometimes you can get a nice ulti off if his q auto didn't instantly 1 hit your squishes or you and maybe even a nice q can slow him from pentakilling.

Oriana - I find if she lands a good ulti you can burst him out before he can move

Morde - Pretty tanky to stop resets and a Master Yi clone can rape his own team even without ulti, e or q.



It only takes Yi 1 small opening to turn entire game around this is his problem. He can be 0/4 and he goes at say a dragon fight someone is low hp someone is half hp rest 80%+ and he can 1v5 off resets.

Picking Lulu and Heim are not always possible to do if you think you have valid counter play you either play lulu ever game or you are in cardboard 7.

 

#1: I have a lantern because I was jungling. I'm not going to rush a BoTRK in the jungle. I use the 90s ward for great counter-jungling (I'm sure you won't believe me if I see it). Plus, if the game ever got the end-game, I would upgrade the lantern for a better lifesteal item obviously.

#2: You get a static shiv when you can't reach people, so you can still get poke from far back. Master Yi craves movement speed, and the stat itemization from PD gives Master Yi more poke than the purpose of a static shiv, in my opinion.

EDIT: Unless you're suggesting to get a static shiv for extra Q damage, especially in team fights. I still don't like the item on Master Yi- sorry.

 

Don't buy lanturn in jungle ever its not a good ward its not a good item you need 3 minute wards in their jungle anyways sightstone is a better item for jugnlers then lanturn.

Lanturn gives nothing Yi needs when you jungle yi you need botrk stativ shiv is same movespeed as phantom its a bigger burst and your q and ulti fill it fast burst gets resets any non retard will tell you theres 2 items Yi needs Botrk and Static Shiv and IE is awesome also going like BT or Lanturn is stupid cutless helps jungle just as good for yi as his q kills all camps in 1 hit pretty much then 2 slices for rest then you have better chasing skills.


Lanturn you buy for a ward it gives no positive stats other then lifesteal maybe if they add 30% jungle damage or 20% it might be decent for early dragons but now its just god aweful. Madreds is a sometimes item but lanturn upgrade is just 1300 for a ward its not as good as 3 minute wards. with 1300 I can buy alot of wards. 1400 gets a cutless going into a BotRK which is needed for Yi to do damage it is his most cost effective item it does everything for his kit even without the 5% on hit its great with it he melts tanks.

3 minute wards track jungler and steal over wall 90 second wards sometimes steal buff over wall never track jungler.


I don't even like PD on ADC's really unless its a late game vayne I think shiv works better in every fight but any melee needs shiv.


But lets look Shiv vs PD

Then lets look about effects Shiv 100 damage which can crit strike (with IE the crit does 250) it builds like every second on Yi he also gets 1% more movespeed neglectable.


If you counted that damage as AD
100 attack damage = 2000g -2500g It gives more damage then a Bloodthirster fully stacked on its first hit and every time you Q or run a few steps in ulti.

Since most chars have more way more def then MR its actually stronger then AD and since it can crit its just as good as ad if not better if even 1/6 of your hits proc it its pretty gold effective. Then you gotta remember it counts on first hit which is a huge burst at start then 1 q then it procs again for 2 hits on 1 Q. 200 dam or 500 with IE crit.

Disclaimer : Much like Riven passive its added as damage not as a stat so it wont be like having a BT added to your E and Q.

I am an awful league player who reached Diamond by studing the math behind the game I know just about every combo of weapons and which weapons work on what and most items are bad.

Lanturn is cost effective however you lose opportunity cost I would rather a cutless then a ward for same price I but lots of wards anyways I need more then 1 90 second ward.

 

I think hes stronger. I have seen people play Master Yi awhile ago I don't know if its the build that makes him stronger but it looks to me like hes gone stronger generally.
