Looking for a laptop to edit video

I know desktops are recommended for that sort of thing, but I'd much prefer a laptop. I'd be using it purely for video editing.

I don't mind buying used - my budget is very low (~$200)

A firewire port is the one absolutely must-have hardware feature. Mac or Windows makes no difference, but it must be able to support Adobe Premiere Pro, the requirements of which are:

Windows

• Multicore processor with 64-bit support
• Microsoft Windows 7 with Service Pack 1 (64 bit) or Windows 8 (64 bit), or Windows 10
• 8GB of RAM (16GB recommended)
• 8GB of available hard-disk space for installation; additional free space required during installation (cannot install on removable flash storage devices)
• 1280x800 display
• Sound card compatible with ASIO protocol or Microsoft Windows Driver Model
• Optional: Adobe-recommended GPU card for GPU-accelerated performance

Mac OS

• Multicore Intel processor with 64-bit support
• Mac OS X v10.9, v10.10, or v10.11
• 8GB of RAM (16GB recommended)
• 8GB of available hard-disk space for installation; additional free space required during installation (cannot install on a volume that uses a case sensitive file system or on removable flash storage devices)
• 1280x800 display
• Optional: Adobe-recommended GPU card for GPU-accelerated performance
• Internet connection and registration are necessary for required software activation, validation of subscriptions, and access to online services.*

Suggestions ?

 

Save more, you will never get a reasonable laptop for that price even used, because people always overprice used tech, especially laptops.

Year old laptops very often go on massive sales, I'd say you can find something quite decent in the 400 dollar range if you look.

Last year I got this laptop for 375 with a discount, was 415 normally.

hmmm, 400 sounds doable... the trouble is with finding one that has a firewire port

 

Firewire is a dead standard mate.
