[Long Read]\/\Sythe.org/\/ Is it more than just another forum site

I remember you saying this to me when I first met you. At first I brushed it off as the average new user, possibly looking to scam down the line, but as I got to know you, it became clear what a great guy you are. You're an awesome member of the community.

Sythe is a great place with many awesome people. I'm happy to be part of it and I'm glad you are as well.

 

I remember when I started getting active in the community in 2011, joined the irc at first to see what people were like. Really happy I get to talk with people like you. The only thing that sucks about this is when you get to be good friends with someone, then you find out they're scammers, blackhat, lied to you, etc - worst feeling EVER

Thanks Pockets, that means alot I was very pumped the day that i saw you got market mod i was like whaaaaatt?

I also remember you telling me pockets that you wanted to be the 1st person on sythe to gain the most "Ranks" such as having market mod, zombi, comp. winner...then keep gaining random ranks and just have the most out of everyone :S

Not sure if you are talking to pockets or me, but if it's me thankyou i enjoy the kind words Idk why i don't want to be an attention whore, i just feel like people should know who i am, like they see my name here, and just know that if they needed a service, or just needed general help, to not have that second guess about if i'd scam or not ya know?

Yesterday i sold an account to Merkdat, and after he had payed me for the account he asked about the recoveries, and i told him that i honestly had no idea because it had been such a long time since i actually played that account every day, and even bothered with the recoveries, and he just responded with, i'm not worried at all, i trust you.

Seeing that said by him (it could have been anyone) just kinda puts that extra log into the fire and keeps me going.

Every vouch is just another step forward.

I just find it quite sad when people gain all that trust then go and scam huge amounts then try get a high pardon. I just think to myself what was the point in scamming when you are just going to request a pardon.

 

That's the way it works unfortunately.

 

Sadly, yes it is the way it happens when people either get upset or they get scammed themselves. I just don't see why they would because if they are so trusted they could easily earn what they lost back in doing some trades or writing up a nice guide or something and could easily sell it due to their reputation. I guess the scammers just don't see it this way sadly, life goes on I guess.

 

I would have to assume the reason people do that, is because they then realize after scamming that they enjoy the site and want to stay (very few cases) but sadly it still happens...

OT: Why I joined sythe.... eh..

Well, I guess orginally to buy/sell accounts. Which i rarely due that because of my irl duties. I mean I've bought over 1b, and sold a few accounts. But other than that I'm usually browsing the forums, checking disputes to see which dumb ass got banned now, and post where I see something I like/See. Or if I feel strongly about the topic.

Sythe in my eyes, is just a very addictive site. I really only REALLY became friends with a few people, really dont know why I havent decided to actually speak to other people. >.> Time maybe? idk But
OT once again.

Although I've only met a few people on Sythe. I've seen a great amount of people here on sythe. LIke heres an ex. The day after my daughter was born, I said hey, why not post pictures to the sythe community. There kinda like family?.

and what happened? Everyone welcomed her in. Well not everyone, but a good amount of people. You could of trolled, mocked me, or anything else. But you welcomed her to the family. And thats something real to me.

Sythe and the community is like a second home to me, and the opportunity to serve on staff for the last year and a half has been the icing on the cake for me.

I first found out about sythe back in mid '07 while using Covey's RS client "Eliteswitch" - I had joined the IRC and began making friends (of whom consist of Verts, Darcy, Covey, just to name a few) and shortly after learned of Sythe. I began lurking around a little bit, getting to know some of the users via the IRC and MSN, and learning things as I went along. Eventually I registered and opened my MM/Skilling/Questing service and began to build my name. This is where I absolutely fell in love with sythe.

After free trade was removed from RS, I went on somewhat of a hiatus, as RS was my primary reason for being here. I would pop in from time to time just to see what was new in regards to changes, staff, etc., as well as to lurk a bit.

I returned around January 2011, and since then have grown to love the community as a whole, and spend a considerable amount of time here, be it dealing with Staff duties, or just browsing/posting around and enjoying myself.

I can honestly say that I've learned and experienced a lot on sythe during my years here, and I am definitely glad to have discovered such a great and flourishing community. I've since made multitudes of close friends, many acquaintances, have been given the opportunity to associate with people from around the world, and of course, rake in a few bucks in the process with my old RSGP shop.

All in all, I can honestly say that my experience on sythe has been a great one, and I would not change it for anything.

 

Well n4n0 i know for me, and i'd speak on behalf of the community, that we appreciate what you do for the forums, and i'm glad you are a moderator because you are one hell of a person, and a great mod, and i'm glad that you have stuck around and done your part for the community.

All of the mods, from what i see do an excellent job at what they do.

 

Also forgot to add in my original post (which is actually the whole reason why I posted in the first place, ironically enough...)

While I was banned after my pardon, I was literally going insane. You can ask anyone who I spoke to on a normal basis. Those 5 or 6 days, however long it was, felt like a year. I'd browse sythe while logged out, and would CONSTANTLY attempt to post, only to remember that I couldn't. It was horrible

 

I guess when you was banned for that short time it helped push you to be the best you can be and wouldn't be the N4N0 you are today. !

 

Met a lot of cool people, rose quickly through the ranks, and made enough money to pay help pay for a portion of my college tuition which really put some stress off my mother.

Cool to see that all those years of playing RS finally paid off somehow. Although looking back, my time was probably much better invested in my studies, but oh well.

 

At first I used Sythe mainly for buying/selling gold. Now I go here to hang out, check out prices, and read threads.

 

I'm not ashamed to say it; I cried when I was banned. After being around the site for a full year, made so many friends and enjoyed myself so much posting around, communicating with others and making a little bit of cash on the side it did feel like I lost a little bit of me when I was banned. I still think that being promoted to moderator was one of the most exciting moments of my life.

I really am happy I stumbled upon this website all those years ago. It isn't just a forum, it's a community, almost a family.

 

I've never been banned from Sythe, so I don't have any experiences similar to the experiences above. However, when I am not at my computer and I'm busy, there are many times that I wish I was on Sythe. The people on this site are some of the most fun and interesting people I've met in my life.

 

That is trueLy a touching story, My friend. i Also cried when I was banned Over a year when i was banned. Getting bannEd while aT the peak of my sythe cAreer aLso meant a lot. i was just begInning to beFriend people of importancE Like all the mOdS at thE time. Really, it was just terrible timing.
