    Long hours at the computer

I know most people here are sitting by the computer three or more hours.
In my case, I get an eye sore after around half an hour, making me unable to concentrate and work for the rest of the day.

My question is, what can I do to prevent that?

I've tried doing regular breaks, 30min - 15min break, but that doesn't seem to help.

Reduce your brightness etc.. They make like.. monitor sunglasses that also reduce glare and stuff. Although, assuming you're not a flinstone, you're probably not going to have to worry about glare because you'll have an lcd monitor.

i personally can't go on the computer for more than 2 hours without feeling stupid and gaining a headache :/ unless you need a computer for work this shouldn't be a problem.

Brightness is mostly at 25%, monitor sunglasses are not needed, because I got already everything at a good rate.

Don't sit so close to your monitor. You should be roughly 2 feet away from it, depending on its size.

The issue that causes your eyes to burn is not the brightness of the monitor, generally, the issue nowadays comes from the attempt at reading and interpreting too much information in a short matter of time.

Let's say you have a 47" plasma screen television, and you sit a foot away from it to play Halo online. Pro-tip, don't fucking do it. Your eyes will have to work way too hard to interpret everything, whereas if the television is farther away, they have to do less work and can dully absorb the data.

Bigger screens require further distance. If your screen is small, you may still be too close, or may have to get your eyes checked for issues.

Do what the other guys said. My monitor is a 21.5" and I put it like two feets away. I guess if you used the computer more often, you grow more immune to it. I can go eight hours straight of gaming without any issues.

Might as well get a cat scan while you're at it.

Thanks for the replies! I will try increasing the distance between my eyes and the monitor. I noticed that I tend to lean forward a bit, although sitting straight is exactly two feet ( WTF? ).

Is this a problem you're having with work? If not, it's really not a bad thing to not be able to sit in front of a computer for long, can turn into a bad habit.

Try a few hand exercises. Look around the room and focus on somthing for awhile. Or rub your hands together for 30 secs and then cup your hands. Now take your hands and cover your eyes for about 2 mins. See if that works.

Try: keep the lights on in your room as long as possible as looking at a computer screen in the dark can severely hurt your eyes if you're not adapted to it.

Indeed, drink water, increase distance between you and the monitor and INCREASE THE BRIGHTNESS IN THE REST OF THE ROOM. I have a lamp right next to my monitor and this reduces the stress on my eyes by such a massive amount, I used to get intense headaches after ~1-2 hours at the computer even with breaks but I don't any more (I wouldn't know anything about like 6 hours since I've never spent that long on it.)

I feel the same but I'm about 3-5 hours a day, just messing up with Fedora. When I leave the computer, I have a strange feeling: I hate myself.
