    Is the world overly sexualized?

Do you think the world has reached a point where pretty much everything revolves around sex and the sexual appearances of others?

Who is to blame? Celebrities? Social media? Parents?

Is this a good or a bad thing in the future to come?

I'd blame the human nature. Men are looking for women to have sex with and the men in charge know this, it's just good marketing. It has gotten to a state where there are huge posters of basicly naked women on every corner of the city. It's getting old though, too much is too much.

The sad part is it will only get worse. The new/next generation will be exposed to this toxin. I don't even want to think of the backlash.

Its awful. Hispanics have always thought women reach sexual maturity early (hence the lowered age of consent in nearly every spanish speaking country) and living in texas there have always been little hispanic girls dressed like little whores in outlandishly short skirts and little hoochie tops ect.

I was working at a high end mall last week to see a ton of >13 well to do white girls dressed the same way. After this occurred to me I realized, little girls werent dressing like this a few years ago.. DAMN sure not when I was in school! The social norm for dressing children in sexually provacative clothes has changed pretty drastically in the past few years and is frankly freaking me the fuck out.

On this front I blame the parents entirely. However they are probably swayed in turn by an over sexualized media. Regardless its pretty devastating to watch a whole generation grow into it..

Almost everything has always revolved around sex - sex is fundamental. But it is also highly exploitable, and it has become increasingly so in recent times. All present generations as well as those to come are now, and will continue to be, shaped by the ubiquity of sex. We can only speculate as to what the future will bring, but nodnar has made an important observation concerning the present.

Although this is not necessarily new, I think another indication might be this: How often do good-looking woman dress sensuously and then take great offense at being observed? Certainly there is a limit to how much 'observing' is too much, but what is the point of wearing sensuous clothing if not to evoke or convey sensuality?

It's a mixture of a lot of factors but for me the main culprits are the media via social networking.

I mean.. I was 14-ish when losing your virginity became a thing.. 14! If you were 15/16 and a virgin you were a loser. Why and how? Listen to one pop song and you soon realise that getting pissed, high and laid are what a kid will aspire to, read one magazine and the size 0 is what young girls think they have to be because a size 12+ is "fat" and unattractive.. all these things point to being found attractive, being sexy, having sex..

Yes, we can blame these people and say "you're weak for giving in to peer pressure" or "you cant believe and live by what's in the magazine" - but kids are like magnets to these little snippets of what's expected and published in front of their eyes. We live in a world where depression and suicide rates in teens are some of the highest. So it's not a dumb, temporary problem that's being created.

This powerful advertising campaign really got me when I saw it:

Humans are hard wired for sex, the world revolves around it. Overly sexualized? I don't feel that way.

The world has never been this captivated in sex/sexual appearance before. Are you saying it's progression is not exaggerated?

With technology and the media taking over the world, it can only get much worse.

I was thinking about that just now.

Men are far from exempt. The idea that we only want 'one thing' is ancient and we hear it all the time. It is true that often times men will try to convince the girl they aren't looking for sex, but rather a great personality or something like that. So they convince her of having genuine intentions while trying to work their way toward an ulterior desire, and when they don't get it, all kinds of conflict emerge.
Problems arise when we deny having sex on our minds, for nearly all of us do - men and women. We tend to repress it under certain circumstances, perhaps to avoid being thought of perverts, or sluts. But these are words that get thrown around rather loosely nowadays, so we take extra precaution. Still, the repression of sexual desire will only cause it to be manifest in other ways, clothing is perhaps one basic example.
It is not that we should not desire sex, but it must not become our sole objective; it needn't necessarily be even the most important one. When we confront a barrage of pseudo-pornography in mass media, our basic intuitions are immediately challenged, and this, I think, is the greatest danger in a hyper-sexualized society.
