[Denied] Lets remove the advertisement of discord servers on sythe

No support.
It’s inevitable that people stop using Sythe as a way to trade and move to Discord.
There are to many advantages with discord and the idea of make illegal the advertising of the servers will be negative for the future health of Sythe.
This also means that we should also make illegal the advertisement of websites because literally if people who use people to work can not use it , this would be a big advantage for big websites.
As a final this suggestion is dangerous for the future of Sythe this could literally make a lot of people leave , this is not 2006 we are in 2021 and things change.

 

Something to add is that some people will not like to use voice chat or things like that.Please take this in mind also

Allowing advertisements is great for the owner(s) of the server but bad for Sythe's longevity and activity. I'd guess that many active Sythe users are going to be against this suggestion since they own discord servers and this would likely impact their businesses. The sustainability of Sythe is an afterthought to most.

This suggestion would create a lot of change. Honestly, I could understand both sides of the argument for/against.

I don't use any other RS-centric black-market forums, but I've heard that a couple websites are doing well / are active. I'd be curious to hear from someone on whether they allow discord advertisements on-site?

 

it is too late. this needed to happen 2 years ago when service discords with ticket systems were being made by everyone. i think there was a big discussion, mutiple actually, about it, but i cant fully remember the details. sythe had a good run though.

i think most people who still actively provide services are on discord anyway, so it doesnt really affect anything.

 

Sythe won’t become completely irrelevant, it’s a staple for handling disputes, checking UID’s, advertising and Donor Status. When looking for an account or gold, a website or discord server is easier than searching a market forum listing, not to mention is often automated with immediate delivery. If anything, Sythe should up its game with a more modern market section.

To be honest, Sythe should just switch to a purely discord-based trading service with a little bit of personality augmentation to preserve the camaraderie that forums helped foster.

 

They kind of tried that pivot and every server gets quickly banned

this was needed a couple years back, I find it impossible to imagine a future where discord adverts are not allowed. What about IRC? Back to the roots.

 

If people want to use a Discord server instead of a forum then they will do so regardless of Discord servers being advertised here or not.

Forums are honestly becoming a thing of the past, they do still exist but nowhere near the level of activity they used to be, those who were here around 10 years ago would remember how active it was back then.

Finally, doesn't the "official" Sythe Discord server keep getting banned by Discord themselves for trading or whatever? Banning other Discord server URLs in favour of an official one (that just keeps getting banned and forcing everyone to manually re-join the new one with the chat server history getting reset each time) seems pointless and tiresome.

As long as RuneScape exists (and it's always possible to trade on there without Jagex being too aggressive / strict on preventing it) then I think Sythe as a forum will always have traffic due to how long the site has been going. As already said above forums are dying out (most users on them are people who have previously used them for years, not many "new" users of today's generation) and this is simply the internet (and world) moving onto new methods of communicating with each other.

I think it's a simple case of the "golden years" of the early 2000s / early 2010s are behind us now as far as forum activity goes.

 

Let's be real. Discord has (almost) nothing to do with this whole situation.
OSRS died, just look at the osrs account sales and services section. Sellers are offering 30-50% discount so people might buy from them. Even the top service providers have a nonstop 10-15% off, we know it's because of not getting enough sales. I see trusted members trying to sell their accounts for months even though their prices are realistic. And it's the same on Discord, the same accounts are being advertised for months on the servers.
