Making Your Own Forum!!

Some of you might want to make your own site! Whether it is a RuneScape forum, or a warez forum, this tutorial will hopefully show you how to make your own! This tutorial will show you how to make a FREE forum, since many of us would prefer one.

So, the first thing we need is a host. I personally use http://www.000webhost.com. Go there and click the Sign Up button. You will get to a page that looks like this.



Fill in the info. You need a valid email address for this to work. Ignore the box,
*I want to host my own domain (domain must be registered already)*
and on the one right below it, type the name of the domain you wish to create.

EX. www.blah.comli.com

After filling out the form, you will see a page that looks like this:



Click the Enter Control Panel located in the pic above.

Now leave that open, and open up a new tab/window. Here is where you choose the software for your forum. There are many different types. Here are some popular ones.

vBulletin (You must pay for this. DO NOT GET A NULL UNLESS YOU WANT YOUR ASS SUED)
phpBB
SMF
IPB

For this tutorial, we will be using SMF (RSCB uses this forum software). Go over to http://www.simplemachines.org/download/.



After downloading it, extract it to an empty folder. Next go back to the other page from earlier and click on "View FTP Details". Now keep that tab open. Open up another tab or browser and go to
filezilla-project.org/download.php
and download it and install it. After that open it up.

Below are the instructions on what to do next.



1 - This is the Host. On the FTP Details page it will tell you the host of your site.

2 - Your Username. It will also be on the FTP Details.

3 - Your password is the same as your 000webhost password.

After all that is filled in, press ``Quick Connect``

After you are connected, you will see a folder on the right, public_html. Open it up and there will be a default.php or something. Delete it.

On the left browse to where SMF is located on your computer. Drag all the contents of that folder into public_html.



It will take some time to transfer the files!! Patience!

After 5-10 mins it should be done. DONT CLOSE FILEZILLA YET!!

Make the following files writeable by right clicking and going to File Permissions. Check both the unchecked Write boxes.

* * ** attachments
* * * avatars
* * * Packages
* * * Packages/installed.list
* * * Smileys
* * * Themes
* * * agreement.txt
* * * Settings.php
* * * Settings_bak.php



Do that to all of em.

We are almost done!! Next go back to the 000webhost control panel and click on MySQL




Set the database name, user and pass. If you need assistance on this PM or post here.

Press Create Database when you have finished. Next go to your site.
EX. http://sitetut.comli.com

When you are there, you should see this page. If it looks different you set your permissions wrong.



On your MySQL page in 000webhost, there will be something like this in bold letters,
mysql6.000webhost.com

Replace localhost with whatever it says. You should know the user, pass, and database name since you set them.

Press Proceed.

Make an Administrator account for yourself, and type your mySQL password again.

After it is done, you should get a congratulations page or something. Go to your homepage and it will say

!!
MAJOR SECURITY RISK:
You have not removed install.php!


Now, FTP back into your 000webhost account and delete it!

If all goes well your forum should look like this.

http://sitetut.comli.com/index.php

If you want to have a co.nr domain go to http://www.freedomain.co.nr/

I made it originally on RSCB. I posted this on Warez-bb also and RSBot.

 

i think its an alright guide, although there are tons of better hosters than 000webhost. nice pictures, and pretty good in depth.
