Line between hacking and cheating?

To my understanding, sythe doesnt approve of hacking. Of any sort. I imagine its truthfully aimed at account hacking/phishing/website hacking of the sorts.

But my question is, whats the line between CHEATING in a game and HACKING ?

For example, sythe condones World of Warcraft botting. Bots in World of Warcraft are now good enough to no-clip under maps, and speedhack to set ore locations. And you can talk about that here.

But is it not ok to make a topic about hacking itself? Ie: Speedhacks, No-clips ?

I dont understand why its ok to talk about bots that hack for us, when its not ok when we ourselves do it.

Not that im suggesting something huge like a cheating section, just that i think its dumb that you cant talk about it at all. Especially when most of this site is about cheating (botting).

Any thoughts? Discuss? Correct me?

Cheating on online games is what this website is about. Its not hacking, to be honest.

The line between (illegal) hacking and computer game cheating is that the prior involves illegal activity, whether phishing, credit card fraud, ddosing and so on, and the other does not. Atleast, that's how I've always approached it.

 

Hacking = illegal. Cheating isn't necessarily illegal.

 

Cheating and hacking are WORLDS apart, cheating is just finding a way to make the game easier, or to go against the ToS by selling an account. Hacking on the other hand takes something from someone or does damage. None of the bots that are discussed on sythe hack, they play the game for you, giving you an advantage.

 

Cheating is just benefiting ourselves and not sabotaging others.
