Instead of Thailand, highly recommend going to Vietnam, Malaysia and Singapore and doing a round trip down there. Far less crowded with tourists, and you get the same experience of night life/meeting people/going out/adventuring, etc.

 

Thailand is a very nice country. If you're on the tourist circuit you're not going to experience anything genuine. If you're going to judge a place by staying in a hostel for a few days and crossing up a Lonely Planet bucket list, you're not going to have any meaningful insight. If that is your plan, and for most people it is, then take it for what it is. Of course the sketchy, weirdo hookers are gonna target dumb ass backpackers.

Stay awhile and get a different vibe. Bangkok is a single man's paradise. You can literally get laid every day by a new girl on Tinder if that's your goal. Or with some social intelligence you can find a quality partner, who has a much different mindset from the girls back home. In Thailand, there is more competition among women when looking for a potential mate, especially a foreigner mate. Everything in the world is just a supply/demand curve.

Also recommend Vietnam. Ch-Ch-Check it out. Get out of the tourist areas and stay in one place for awhile.
