Hmm, no real depth is constructed. The handle looks very 2D while the bevel on most of the other parts makes it look as if its in a 3 Dimensional plane. What I would suggest doing is going back and adding depth to the handle. Other than that its nice. How long did it take you to create this? I am curious.

I am very surprised by this piece, it is very different from what you normally do and it is a nice change. As moonglare said there is little depth. I think the fire on the blade looks too smudged/liquefied. Apart from these things its an amazing piece, definitely one of your best recently. I'm also curious on how long it took to make, sketching and concept idea included.

Handle doesn't look like the fabric material you are trying to make it out to be in the drawing

Pretty cool concept man. Have to agree with moonglare and jack goff that there's little depth and the flames on the end are too smudged.. Great concept though man.

I personally think, for a concept, it's great. The texture placement is spot on and im a big fan of the stylized look it had going. From the drawing to where you got it, I'm really a fan. As far as depth goes, it's fine. Maybe a shadow being cast or more consistent lighting might create a little depth, but even though the sword doesn't seem like it'd be a very flat one, the concept part of it excuses the lack of any real depth. Nice work man

Woah it looked really cool in the development stage but it looked better as an outline IMO

Like I've said before about your drawings, you tend to go about them completely the wrong way.
Digital illustration requires a completely different skillset than doing sigs, and is actually much more similar to actual painting.
First of all, never ever use any layer styles at all no matter how much you want to. They don't fit and look completely wrong.
You do a good job on the textures, but they are laid over a flat color and that doesn't work well at all. The handle isn't particularly good and some bits of the wrapping seem to get cut off in the middle.

    Anyhow
http://browse.deviantart.com/resources/tutorials/digiart/?order=9&q=painting look here, read through a few of them, and get the general idea behind this kind of work. You'll improve tenfold if you actually understand what goes into this, since it's not remotely similar.
