Laptop sending many bytes. Help?

Yesterday I upgraded to a modem with wifi built in. I check my wireless connection activity and from time to time It spikes up in bytes. Yesterday it was past 1billion bytes received in a short time. Should i be worried?

 

It depends. Were you using the internet a lot?

 

After about 10 minutes It'll spike up to huge numbers( millions and billions) Mostly in the received section. All i did was browse a few sites. I wonder will my internet provider charge me extra or something? And what causes the spike? Right now the activity is at 11,000,000 sent and 320,000,000 received. I haven't been doing much.

 

Run a virus scan with MalwareBytes. That seems to crazy to be true.

Besides that, the results of the scan were clean. But my bytes are still high.

 

Well, in 19 minutes from startup and only going to 3 sites, I have 3.5m received and 1.7m sent. I'd say unless you're experiencing poor performance or low connectivity, it's no problem.
