Rune set

So I finally got to level 20... and I have more than adequate IP (~15000) to purchase my rune set... but I don't know what to buy exactly.

My favorite character currently is Varus... But I also play Jax, Nunu, Blitzcrank, TF, Twitch, and occasionally Kayle (Right about in that order).

I don't know where to start my rune set though... Anyone have suggestions?

 

9x Flat armour runes *Seals*,
9x Flat magic resist runes *Glyphs*,
9x Attack damage runes *Marks*,
3x Physical Damage Quints,

I would say get AP runes next, so basically,

9x Magic Pen runes *Marks*
3x Ability Power *Quints*

That should start you off, not sure how much you have left over.
-But ofcourse you can't use all your rune slots until 30.

I'd recommend the above, but replace 7/9 of the marks with Armor Pen instead. It's really just personal preference though

I would imagine Quints of AD is what you're talking about? (+2.25AD)??
and the other is equivalent AP Quints right?
Also... Out of curiosity why don't people use scaling runes?!

 

Yes.

Go with flat runes if you will have a stronger laning presence because of them. Although per-level runes outpace flat runes around level 13 (sometimes even earlier), the strong early game presence provided by flat runes can out-value the late game presence provided by per-levels, so it basically varys on the champion you're against.

Flat; Early
Scale; Mid-Late

By scale you mean x increase per level?

 

You're gonna want these standards eventually:

Marks -
Magic Pen. x9 (1st priority)
Armor Pen. x9 (1st Priority)
AD (Optional, last priority. You can get these instead of Armor pen marks if you want to go 100% bonus AD on ad carries, but the armor pen is very good on AD bruisers.)
Atk Speed (Optional if you like to jungle certain champs, last priority)

Seals -
Armor (1st Priority)
Health/ Level (2nd Priority)
Mana/ Level (Optional, last priority)

Glyphs -
MR/ level (1st priority)
AP/ level (optional, good on many AP champions)

Quints -
AP (First Priority)
AD (First Priority)
Armor Pen (Optional, last priority. It's nice to be able to mix and match your marks with quints on ad characters.)
Movement Speed (Second Priority)
Gold/ 5 (Optional, good on supports.)
