Just want to talk shop about Gift Cards

So buying & even selling Gift Cards seems like a dangerous game.. then again like anything selling always is.. chargeback'ng tools seem to be the majority these days :-(

Anyway what I really want to know is.. buying Gift Cards can definitely turn into one hell of a mess.. them getting retracted even after successful use is my primary concern..

Short of having the people I buy from mailing me the cards themselves.. there isn't really much I can do is there short of take the risk..

And yeah.. I know some kids are going to try to say "that's why you deal with trusted buyers/sellers"

That's the problem though bros.. no one's trustworthy 'til you deal with'm awhile.. & even then.. could all be building up to something.. or the straightest seller in the world could snap one day & go darkside..

Anyway.. any other advice on how to minimize the risk short of getting the gift cards mailed to me ?

Pictures of receipts don't really make me feel any better..

The Gift Card being redeemed generally ends most companies willingness to refund or otherwise return & invalidate it doesn't it ?

At that point the tool trying to scam off it would have to contest it with the bank that paid for it & hope that convinces the company to take action.. yeah ?

What about the ole "I redeemed this to the wrong account pls help".. suppose there isn't much to be done about that huh.. therein lies a major risk.. cost of doin' business :-(

 

Don't buy gift cards with the intent to resell them. Buy them for personal use and only buy them if you can spend them right away. Make sure the order is actually processed and shipped before paying for the card too and use a middleman if you have to

That's my plan.. to buy'm for personal use..

I've just got this worry that they'll come back to bite me later.. which I guess there probably isn't much I can do about proactively.. just react & burn the scammer if it happens..

Granted a lot of folks are selling gift cards they legitimately received too so some might not have the means to attempt to recall it either..

I'm just thinkin' person buys AGC from Wal-Mart.. sells it.. then tries to double dip by either recalling it at Wal-Mart or whoops Amazon I applied it incorrectly please recall or move it..

I suppose there's some personal responsibility for the would be seller too.. the sources of their cards are probably going to give them some shit about attempting to dispute it..

It's not that I don't have the stomach to get ripped off.. wheel & deal online or even offline for long enough & it'll happen..

Just try to minimize my exposure where I can..

Once the gift card is SPENT (not just applied to your account or whatever) even if the person does reverse it the store can't come after you. Amazon is a little trickier on this end as this tends to be the most-frauded gift card. For the most part, people on this site sell the real deals though

Lock down your account & negative or invoice a balance of some sort..

Start throwin' out words like collusion & conspire..

Yeah sure.. that may be a little dramatic but ay.. my life's mantra has always been hope for the best plan for the worst :-D

 

Amazon's the only one I know of that will sometimes lock people's accounts. It's something that I've never experienced on any site that I bought gift cards for from here
