I've been listening to Pink Floyd for the past 48 hours and have been utterly obbsessed with it. I've been reading up on Syd Barret too. Syd, and Floyd make me want to do acid haha. Even though Barret lost his mind to hit. :noworry:
He didn't really lose his mind to it. He was mentally unstable to begin with. The fame that came with Pink Floyd caused him to have a nervous breakdown. Those close to him knew it would've happened with or without drugs. At the very most it only caused him to breakdown sooner. It wasn't the primary reason for it, though. Not saying it can't mess with your mind, but you have to drop a lot for it to. I had a professor whose brother dropped acid all the time growing up (100s of times). He still functions now, but he's just not all there. Edit: That doesn't always happen, though. My dad dropped acid a lot back in the 60'swhen it was still legal before he got drafted into Vietnam, and he's fine. Ended up going to MIT after he got back.
Syd's story is rather sad, how he was so prominent in the band and then ended up being kicked out and replaced by a friend because the rigours of showbiz got to him. It's very similar to what happened to Brian Jones.
