my father sent me this file

so my father sent me a ((picture)) it isn't a picutre

the extension of the file was src


i opened it with a notepad
i got this
i am pretty sure it's a virus or a keylogger

can anyone tell me what this is ?

It is actually an .ini file thats intentionally renamed as .src and read by a keylogger. its basically encoded settings for a keylogger. .ini's have been renamed to .dlls and .src and other's Keyloggers can actually understand a file with a different file type.


Oh and to fix your computer problem you need to do the following. You have the new Vundo virus.

Google these things: Autoruns, COmboFix, Malwarebytes Ani-Malware

Download them all

Run COmboFix, read the instruction

After its done, Go To Control Panel. MAke a NEW User.
*SIDE NOTE: This Vundo virus ONLY affects the currently logged on infected user.*

Restart in SAFE MODE W/ NETWROKING (F8 at BIOS screen)

Log on to new user and run Autoruns. Click User at the top and select your other user account
Look for anything suspicious

CLose and Restart in Normal Mode with ORIGINAL user.
Run Malwarbytes

Done.

Ive seen these things for years. I've been sweeping computers for a while. I'm telling you he more than LIKELY didn't intentionally try to do anything. HE might be infected and it self attached to his email. It's all about what the virus does.

Volvic you don't have to bash him. Most people who don't know computers assume the worst. And if HAD a keylogger yeah he could see what he was typing. its called emailling logs, which ALL good keyloggers do by standard.

 

I think it's time to get a new Dad. Do you two infect one another's computers for fun or did you just eat the last Klondike bar or something?

 

His dad doesn't "trust" what he does on the internet, I doubt half of you guys' dad's trusted you on the computer.. especially when you were on it a lot.
