    How To Get An A* In A Maths GCSE

    Alright, I just died XF'ering over 6Mill so I decided to make this guide. It's aimed more at the GB Users, but could still be helpful for other members... not sure how the exam's work in other countries. Please note, this guide doesn't GURANATEE an A*, you must have a minor bit of intellect too. Also, you must be taking the Higher Tier paper for this to work... If your not, you could attempt to beg or bribe your teacher, but I wouldn't reccomend it.

    Alright, first up, find out your exam board... there are 3 here in the U.K.

    They are;
    • AQA
    • EdExcel
    • OCR

    You can find out which exam board your school is using by asking your Math's teacher.

    Now, your school is either doing a Modular course, or a Linear course. The difference between the two is that with a Modular exam, you do exams every 5 or so months based on a range of topics you've learnt within that time period. With Linear, you do a block exam at the end of Year 11, in which case you have to remember everything until the end of Year 11.

    How to get that A*;

    Step 1 - Visit BBC GCSE BiteSize by clicking here. Go to Maths, and select the topics you wish to revise.

    Step 2 - Put that knowledge to practice. Vist your exam board's site where they offer you free past papers in .PDF format (PDF format is a document which can be read with Adobe Acrobat Reader, most computers come with this however if yours doesn't you can visit www.adobe.com and download it for free).

    AQA's Website: www.aqa.org.uk

    EdExcel's Website: www.edexcel.org.uk

    OCR's Website: www.ocr.org.uk

    You can get the past papers and the mark schemes for them yourself from here.

    Step 3 - This is an obvious one, but try to get alot of sleep and eat well before the exam. Don't think you'll get away with 5 hours of sleep and a glass of water.

    Step 4 - Remain focused and calm during your exam, read over every question and make sure you understand fully what it's asking you to do (I messed up a question on a mock because I didn't realise there were 2 recurring decimal's above 2 numbers).

    Well done, now hopefully you've got an A*, kick back and take a drink (perhaps play some scape) knowing that you've got a bright future ahead of you :p .

    A little bit about me; I'm a year 10 student, I've just done my mocks and aced them with 90% mark's on my first module. I r be one of those smart ones.

    You can find out which one your school is using

    Its true, for maths you need alot of concentration and focus, and a good nights sleep, since math screws up your mind

    Haha im in Year 12 now, i take Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry Physics ICT and General studies. I got A* in maths, but its natural. I didnt do coursework which is why im wondering as to how i got an A*:p i think coursework is 15% meaning 85%+ is an A* in exam. meaning i got more than that :)
