Is It Safe To Give Iphone 5s Imei Number Out?

i had a guy asking about my iphone 5s imei number
he said he was interested in my phone and asked what carrier and how many gigabits.
then he asked me for the IMEI number i gave to him but havent heard back from him

i heard that he might try to clone my phone and if he does is that bad for me what will happen is this safe?

 

Probably a stupid idea.

 

Nope, a person can easily report it stolen then have you framed. If they know it's your phone they can let the authorities know, and if they catch you with it and the IMEI comes up stolen you'd likely have to proof ownership etc which is a long process and hard. If not you could lose the phone.

 

It's safe to give it out. The only people that can make your IMEI bad is your wireless provider, and they will only do that if the owner of the phone reports it stolen.

Any reasonable person who's interested in buying a used smartphone would ask for the phone's IMEI to check if the phone's stolen.

Knowing someone's IMEI isn't proof of ownership of the device. Why would a random person who has no proof they bought the phone call the police saying some phone was stolen.

 

Not just your wireless provider. They're people all over who have the know how to blacklist phones.
