Title about sums it up. Sythe allows viewer, followers, likes, and other boost like that on other media sites. Is it allowed here?

Views on threads? There's no rule against that, but anything that would come under flooding the site (DDoSing too) wouldn't be allowed. You're also not allowed to run a bot on the site.

Is it against the rules to boost views?

I can boost views at about 100kb/s of data and get about 5000+ views a minute. I would suspect 100kb/s wouldn't harm the site any. Furthermore the site is covered by cloudflare and any attempts to flood the site are blocked quite efficiently, I've found. (not saying I've tried to flood the site, but only to boost views). Also, I don't know what you'd classify as a bot? Would an auto clicker of clicking refresh be considered a bot (I know this doesn't increase views)? Would a script be considered a bot? Would my computer refreshing the page be considered a bot? Is there a particular rule somewhere that gives me some clues?

Auto clicking would be a bot. To be honest anything that means you are not at the computer would be a bot.

You'd have to get further clarification on that though, seeing someone banned for using a bot on the site is extremely rare.

Is it against the rules to boost views?

Well they can use this thread as an example. I just gave it 5000 views without throwing a single flag on cloudflare. (at least none that blocked me)

Furthermore, is there any specific rule about using a bot? I searched throught the rules and couldn't find anything specific enough. The only one I found that even remotely came close to the method is by the vbullietn glitches. Although it's not a glitch or exploit, it's bascilly just refreshing a page and has nothing to do with the vbulliten software itself... I'd like to see a specific rule or have at least some comment about the matter from someone in a higher position. I don't mind sharing the method to someone but I'd rather not to anyone not in a higher position due to it causing headaches in the future...

    Thanks for your input though.

I do recall there being something in the rules in the past about using bots on the site, however it seems to have been removed / merged into something else.

Even so I would go find an upper staff member (preferably an admin) and get clarification on it.

It should be against the rules if it isn't.

Why? Why can you boost YouTube views, but not thread views?

This. Boosting your views will give you an unfair advantage over other threads.

    Let's take an example.

    http://www.sythe.org/runescape-3-se...2147m-com-pp-moneypak-ideal-credit-debit.html
This is Busta's goldshop, and it's been here for three years and gained around 200,000 views legitly.

Since it hasn't been closed and has that many views, it means that he's legit and never scammed (like he is), so there is a tiny correlation between how old a thread is and trust.

You come along, joined 1-2 months ago and boosted views to 100k to make yourself seem more legit than other people, how is that fair?

Views don't establish trust. Views make your thread stand out from the rest.

It's been illegal on many different sites and forums. Honestly I would make it against the rules to boost views (F5). People are simple minded (not all, but a lot are) so when they see a thread with thousands of views they automatically think that person must be somewhat trusted. This gives somebody more reputation than they should have. It also dwarfs out many of the lower viewed threads were people are trying to sell/buy their things or offer their services. Since people usually flock to a thread that has more views.

I feel boosting of thread views should be against the rule since it gives the threads boosted an unfair advantage.

I would support a rule being created to eliminate this from happening again.
