Interested in starting to work out but don't know where to begin. Any advice?

I'm currently around 6'0 and weigh about 135lbs. Prior to this February, I was a shut-in/neet for around 5-6 years. During that time I had little to no physical exercise and my days consisted of me getting up, walking to my desk, and staying at the desk either power-leveling rs accounts to sell or elo boosting in League of Legends for the site I worked for at the time for the entire duration of the day (with the exception of maybe one meal). I realize how unhealthy this was, it was a very rough patch for me.

In early March I finally got an actual 9-5, just a desk job, but it got me out and gave me an actual, reliable income. Now that I've gotten my monthly budgeting all figured out and previous obligations paid off, I'd like to start focusing more on my personal health and working out more. What would be a good starting point? I don't currently have a gym membership, but I'm not opposed to getting one. As far as things I have at home, I have a mat I could use as well as a few 10 lb weights, but nothing big or fancy. I care more about feeling healthy and less about aesthetics, I don't know if that changes anything for what I should start on. Any tips/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Invest in some half decent dumbells , do some curls / shrugs / tricep skull crushers google will show u how to do them , at first look at getting 3x sets of 15reps your last 3 reps on your 2nd,3rd sets u should be feeling a burn . U will eventually get a craving for ur exercise and u will no doubt sign up to the gym.

Having worked for a big gym & fitness firm for nearly 4 years there are countless people sign up for a year , do like 10-12 weeks then don't come back.

If u have the dumbells at home , u can take them or leave them but try and get 4x days in ur week with some decent sets in.

I have got a good training program/regime that i use / used before i got injured & depressed u are more than welcome to have if u are serious about doing some real work outs. Im sorry i can't really add a lot more but google and youtube will no doubt show u the exercises with the proper form.

I wish u well and i have no doubts you coming back to your thread in 6 months a different person .

Do NOT go insane with the supplements. Stick to a few trusted ones to add to your regime.

There are bodybuilding forums (some with good, reliable info, and some with.... marketing BS) jsut be careful where you get your info from.

This. BCAA's, Creatine and Whey Protein will be more than enough (and all actually studied and proven) to tack on some weight and strength gains without going off the deepend into broscience non fda BS maybe a pre-workout if you're feeling crazy but using them often builds a tolerance pretty quickly so i'd take it easy. I'd also consider weight/mass gainer shakes (pricy but easier than eating all your necessary bulking calories) and immediately start a bulking diet as he is pretttty far underweight.

Just get a gym membership OP, most places offer a free session with a "personal trainer" with a membership that'll spew a bunch of nonsense and try to sell you on their personal workout preferences and or diets. Shut down the sales pitch and ask them to familiarize you with the machines and proper form for basic lifts. You'll be nervous and self conscious at first but if you study up how to do your exercises at home, emphasize good form and don't try and go in there and lift outside your abilities no one will pay you any mind.

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate all the advice I've gotten so far.

I won't be able to budget in gym membership for a bit, will need to save up a bit and cut back on some other things, but I should definitely be able to budget it in eventually if all goes well.

you could start with body weight exercises this will build you a good base and you will be able to master your form ready for the gym.
Have a look here: The Bodyweight Workout That Builds Big Muscles
Some of ideas. You're 6ft and 60kg that's insane, you need to up your calories and do some of the body weight exercises dont jump in the deep end specially if you're very new its going to be tough for you and you dont want to lose motivation. If you want any help let me know :) Good luck!

Eat 3,000+ calories a day preferably! At 6 Ft you want to be weighing minimum 160 if you are trying to gain muscle. Bulk up, get on a muscle building plan, cardio 2-3 times a week but only 20-30 minute sessions high intensity while still eating 3,000-3,500 calories a day. I promise if you do this, within the first year you will see 10+ pounds of muscle and obviously some fat but mainly muscle at first, but YOU MUST EAT A LOT! can't stress that enough, and do not worry about getting fat, it will pay off in the end.

Cardio is just going to nullify his bulking efforts. Whats the point in eating at a surplus if you're going to burn off the calories doing high intensity cardio. Cardio can be a great way to loose weight or to get into shape but if we're talking about bulking and gaining muscle it should be extremely low priority if not nullified completely.

You won't find bulking or muscle building plans with 2-3 cardio days because it's counterproductive.

You are right to an extent, however it is very good for your body to do cardio 1-3 times a week but not more than 20-30 minute sessions of just high intensity. The days you would do cardio are the days you would eat the most calories. You want to keep your cardiovascular system healthy. This would help a lot with longer weight training days as well. You don't want to overdo cardio but, it does make you healthier.

If you want to feel healthy, ignore all this shit about bulking up there missing your point.

Imo just start off with doing some long walks, you burn just as much calories running as walking.

Walk a few miles every day, this will aid in weight loss along with a healthy diet.

Once your comfortable try power walking/ upping it to a slow jog, you will know your bodies capabilities a lot better than we do.

Not true and irrelevant: How Many Calories Do You Burn Walking?
You realize you're pitching broad weight loss advice to someone who is medically underweight by a wide margin.

Seriously man, he doesn't need to loose weight. I understand your concerns about "bulking" but we aren't pitching this to a guy at a healthy weight trying to become a mass monster, we're saying it to a guy who is factually underweight by a wide margin who wants to introduce calorie burning exercises to an otherwise sedentary lifestyle..

The fact you think you burn as much calories running as walking shows your lack of knowledge about fitness. As I said before this user should focus on body weight exercises and should be eating at a surplus then slowly moving onto compound lifts and other programs.

His height to weight ratio is very unhealthy, he really needs to bulk up at least 20-30 pounds. Doing this while lifting weights would benefit him a lot, make him look bigger/better/leaner and all around more muscular. Once he is at a healthy weight I think walking and jogging is perfect for him to stay healthy and feel good. But definitely needs to gain a lump some of weight first.

Supplements should be the last thing on your mind, the most simple and effective thing is "Consistency and Routine". Make the gym a healthy habit and the results will follow, worry about supplements when you are a year down the line.

You don't need to go to gym in order to lose weight and become more healthy. For any weight loss two big things are the most important, healthy eating and regular physical exercises, and you can do the last ones successfuly at home, besides you already have some nice stuff for this :) Personally I made my work outs at home and that was enough effective for me, I also ran several times a week in addition, you can try this method too but be careful with avoiding overexcercising, such approach won't make your weight loss faster, instead you'll get only harm for your body and there's a risk that your weight will become even bigger because of such stress.
Try to drink more fresh water during the day (at least 5-6 cups), reduce general amount of caffeine, sugar and soda in your daily menu. Stop skipping breakfast and eating not long before going to bed, also get rid of spontaneous snacks at night and during watching movies. Your diet should consist mostly from vegetables and fruits, and also have enough protein. Control your rest and sleep, you need to have enough sleep and good relax at every night (its lack often makes the weight loss more difficults too).
Also it's recommended to check hormones before the start of your weight loss programm because many methods can be not enough effective because of hormonal imbalance which in this case can be connected with low thyroid, estrogen, HGH nexelmedical.com/hgh-injections/hgh-injections-for-sale , testosterone, high cortisol and so on. Many of such issues can be fixed only in a medical way.
And yeah, avoid supplements, they're mostly harmful for your health, not so helpful as it can seem.

exactly what I was going to post until I seen this lol, If you can stay consistent and keep yourself in a motivated routine with a good regime and eat well, then you're already on the right path, just make sure you stick with it.

Read the book Starting Strength by Mark Rippetoe. Also check out their YouTube stuff.

I own a personal training business and we teach all of our clients with the methods from that book. It's a best seller on Amazon. If you end up reading it, please feel free to reach out me and we can talk about it if you have any questions.
