Axioms in universe and human creation.

An axiom, in basic usage, is a self-supporting or self-evident truth. Axioms require no explaination or evidence as to where they came from. But are there some commonly accepted "truths" that are based off of axioms and should require better reasoning as to where they come from? How about theories of universe and human creation for example?

The two most commonly accepted universe creation theories are that of a devine power (some supernatural diety or being that creates all) and a "Big Bang" or celestial happening (where nothing is superformed into something by force of superformation).

The two most common theories of human creation are, again, a devine power (man from clay and woman from man's rib) and evolution (modern human beings are derived from primates and other bipeds).

Now that I listed four theories, the most common response would be "I believe in this, and I believe in that." My question to you is, "how do you know that you believe in this or that? What are you basing your decision off of, or are you just going along with an axiom to automatically fill in the initial thinking for you?"

Back to axioms. It all roots back to axioms. Commonly accepted bases to commonly accepted answers.

If its true that A = C, and it is also true that B = C, then the axiom implies that A = B.

If God exists because you are told he exists, and because God exists you believe in Devine Power creation, then you believe in God.

If you know primates have a close relationship to humans, and because they do you believe that you are their decendants, then you believe in evolution.

 

So everyone believes in Devine Power creation? In some shape or form?

 

You could technically say that. However I believe in a big bang theory.

 

But I thought you were religious?

 

Just because I believe in a God doesnt mean I believe that he created all. I falsify the axiom by setting my own.

 

Then why do you believe in a God?

 

Because everyone takes at least one axiom in their life. You believe the universe is endless, why? Because everyone says it is. You believe that dogs see in black and white, why? Because everyone says they do.

Its a prior belief that often requires no formal explaination and that can be held on the lowest level of reasoning and you can base other logical reasoning off of it.

Whether its true or not to begin with is unknown.
