Insert Youtube Video revamp

Quite often there are situations where people do not know how to embed their videos properly.

What I propose is that the youtube button here.

Instead of having it insert [youtube ] [ /youtube] tags as people do not know how to place the link correctly inside the tags, have it so that it goes like this where you just paste the whole link into it, making it easier for those who do not how to do it correctly.

All it would have to do would find the = and delete it and everything prior to it really.

so the main thing that has to be replaced is

with something that evaluates the {param} string and checks if it contains a youtube.com/ or a youtu.be/ or anything of the sort - 5 seconds in php or javascript
obviously it's an immense security risk to just open up whatever the user puts in {param} - The moment someone finds a flash vulnerability sythe would be completely and utterly fucked

 

Great suggestion. Yaroow just embedded one of mine because I didn't know how. This thread has explained how but the suggestion is a great, should be simple and will make life easier for users who don't know how to embed videos.

 

No support, it's easier now, people just need to learn how to do it.

 

People are forever reluctant to learn things or read stickies though, so they will never learn and there will always be a few people who don't know how to do it.

Maybe so, but if it's a quick thing that can be done, why not? It'll make things much easier for the newer members.

This. We've had people embedding Youtube videos wrong for years.

 

Agreed, supporting this. There're always newcommers joining Sythe so why not making it not easy for them?

If its a simple fix, why not? Posting the whole link is much easier and more convenient in my opinion.

 

The reason that its coded the way it is, is due to bugs/exploits if i remember correctly. I believe govind wrote this script(or played a role in assisting)

Ill see if i can get him to take a look at this.

 

Spoke to govind. It was actually matthew who handled it. I suggested to govind that we permit both methods to be used (as changing the script would break all current embeds) and he said he would look into it.

As a caveat.... Vb4 has these built in (i believe) so worst case scenario... We wait (inb4 "wait for vb4" hate comments)

Oh, so it will definitely be implemented regardless, excellent! Hopefully vB4 isn't going to be much longer. I'm so pumped for it!

 

Support if comes with vb4. No support if it doesn't. Why you ask? Because default settings make life easier for the admins. Especially because I think it is easier the way it is right now, because pasting a link from a playlist on youtube in that popup box would not work. But posting the letters after the = sign will always work.

 

Default settings make things easier for admins? Apparently we're on a heavily modified version of vB 3.6.4. Another modification would be adaptable like all the past ones.

 

I'm guessing we're going to have to wait >_>.
