    About time to start recording...

well i've been drumming for about 7 years now and I finally decided that i want to start recording my beats, song covers and such. I have an empty room upstairs since my sister moved out and my mom said that I can move my comp and drums in there. I told her that i needed to sound proof the room with eggcrates also and she said if i needed to i could :D
So i want to basically record my drum kit efficiently.

I guess giving info on my drum kit would help with suggesting mic placement..
I have a PDP x7 piece set. I have in this order from left to right cymbal wise:
    14" high hat
    16" crash
    17" crash
    20" ride
8" splash right above the ride
    another 16" crash

heres a picture on how its set up

that would really all depend on the rooms size, and how it's shaped, no one can really tell you what will sound the best it's kinda like with a guitar you just need to experiment with different spots and see what picks up nice etc.

Good luck on recording. Some people like recording in closets for the sound. It's all about what you like.

Damn nice set... I've only been drumming for 3 years and my uncle has a recording studio so I'm thinking about recording some shit. How much did your set cost?

Uh the set itself was 1400$ without the cymbals, double bass pedal, cymbal stands etc. I've collected the cymbals and stuff over time.

maybe 2 overhead mics for your cymbals, 1 mic in your kick drum, and mic up each of your toms and your snare. I would just play around with positioning until you find what you think sounds the best

I would go to a local music store and talk to someone about it or if that isn't an option then maybe a forum dedicated to recording. I'm not very knowledgeable on the subject since I've never done solitary recording
