Skinny you believe god is real. Why do you? The bible was written by people not by the supposed "god". Think common sense now, If god was real why would he not answer prayers? One person on this thread on the first page said that 4 billion people are catholic. So 4 billion people who pray dont get their prayers answered. Now does that sound realistic? On another note. What is your IQ sythe?

    ATTENTION SYTHE!!

god exists. here is my proof.. coming from the most well known and appreciated book in the world:
    'The Bible'

no no.. okay.. heres my understanding of OMNIPOTENCE.

in the scholastic understanding, omnipotence is understood to be compatible with certain limitations upon a deity's power, as opposed to implying infinite abilities. There are certain things that even an omnipotent deity cannot do.
the statement "a deity can do anything" is only sensible with an assumed suppressed clause, "that implies the perfection of true power."
nothing which implies contradiction falls under the omnipotence of a deity.
example.. GOD IS PERFECT AND THEREFORE CANNOT SIN.

    Dipolar Theism's view on it.

The argument can be stated as follows:

    1) If a being exists, then it must have some active tendency
    2) If a being has some active tendency, then it has some power to resist its creator
    3) If a being has the power to resist its creator, then the creator does not have absolute power

therefore implying that no god has absolute power.. therefore throwing your whole omnipotent view out the window.
BUT C.S. Lewis' definition of omnipotence holds attributes to intrinsic possibilities... not intrinsic impossibilities and, therefore when asked nonsense or contradictions, in no way limits his omnipotence.

    K APISH?

disregarding the incorrect statements made in here.. it says in the bible.. that god answers prayers if he deems them worthy of being answered..
if he feels you NEED the prayer answered.. and its not out of selfishness or lust or whatever... including many other factors.. he will answer.. and does in many cases.
hospitals, when patients heal from random.. even though the manner in which it was healed contradicted all statistics and logical fact.. they give credit to a holy being.

GOD.. may answer prayers in opposite to which you ask.. to help you appreciate what you have..

    Really dodgy example..
if you ask for a 3rd house out of greediness.. he may in some way bring you down a few socioeconomic status' to make you appreciate what you had.

Gods way of thinking is outside of our own.. no-one will ever fully understand it..
you cant know exact details of a book just by knowing of its existence.. you have to read it.. and even then you cant fully understand it..
so you questioning the ways of God without knowing anything more than the typical atheists view (RULES! DONT DO THIS! DONT DO THAT! GOD IS A BIG MAN UP IN THE CLOUDS THAT LIKES MONEY!) is absolute absurdity.

If you question an atheist's view without knowing anything more than the typical Christian view, that is just silly. I think most of the atheists here know the typical Christian view as well as the typical atheist view. I don't know if the same is true for believer's - I'm not entirely sure. But I would hazard a guess that many believers have not understood beyond their own views in the past. Christians often try to use the bible as evidence supporting their views, although that usually achieves little.

God is actually commonly believed to be omnipotent you know, so you are setting yourself apart. I must ask you though, how God can be perfect? Isn't perfection entirely subjective? In that case, what is the objective, 'holy' definition of perfect? How can you, a mere mortal, know?

I'm going to put forward a question for all you believers (except agnostics)
Why do you believe your religion to be the one true religion (logically assuming you do) out of the hundreds of alternative belief systems? How do you know you are right? What makes the Qur'an, for example, different from the Bible?

Some thing I have thought about, All my head just thinking. Im Serb so dont expect correct good grammar or english.

To understand such a thing it requires the mentality of a god. But not just a god a creator something unimaginable that started us all something so enormous so strong so entangled in our lives. But we can never see it. Sure some people thing hey God (Jesus,Holy Spirit) made earth? But wait is there something more is there more to life then paying taxes and working is the sole purpose of are lives to be slaves to society? To praise others that we are physically attracted too? I think not. I think life is not a social gathering but a time to meditate and think to understand what is around us and inside us. Its time for the human race to think go deep in side our selves to change thing inside us to work with our bodies. If are brain has the capability to think up Cars. We are most then capable to go inside our selves stop things from hurting our health. I think its time for the human race to sit down under a tree and to meditate and to understand how the meaning of life will be when we do this. To understand our selves to understand our environment to understand all capable things to happen so all things can be made with our selves. To control our minds to control are body to have physical control on this world so the next world will not be hard to live in but a joy and wonderful place. For now we can change our lives. Instead of using the computer sit down outside breath the fresh air of the outside think and purge all bad ideas from your mind make your self be enlightened

God has left our Planet a long time ago, look what a mess our World is in. Global Warming, soon no more Oil, and in 8Billion Years were anyhow dead, apparently the sun will "explode" in 8bil years. Don't ask me how, I didnt make that up.

I personnaly think gods a lie from the Jews, they just wanted money and Power, read your history books if you don't believe me. Guess why Hitler hated Jews. He hated them because they nearly took over germany at that time, 75% of the rich People in germany were Jews! That says something.

I don't care if someone believes in God or not, I won't be able to change their opinions about God and they wouldnt be able to change mine either.

I't is difficult for me to comprehend why People believe in something they can't see, hear, touch, smell nor taste. I remember one day I was arguing about God with someone and he asked me if I believe in Love, I do believe in it because its an emotion and I could feel it, but for me God is not here.

Before someone starts talking abbout hell and all that shit, and that I would go down there if I don't believe in god, well to be honest I don't give a shit, but I know one thing I wont waste my time in a Church or Praying.

Not to forget, guess who made up hell ---- yes you guessed it right the Jews and Christians, and I can tell you why. In the medival ages they said if you don't pay money to the church you go to hell. With that they frightened alot of People so they "donated", well lets say more like "blackmailed".

Religion used to be a dirty business back then, not to forget the Pope was sometimes even seen mightier than the Emperror, because all the people were afraid of going to hell so they "supported" the Pope more than the emperror. The people back then thought that if the Emperror would kill them and they were supporting the Pope they would go to Heaven. Guess what, they though that if they support the Emperror they would burn in hell for eternity. It was all about fear back then, nothing about religion, even the Priests and bishops didnt obay the churches rules, all what they wanted was money.

Noone will be able to change my views about religion or god so don't even try. Youll just waste your time.

Perhaps you can provide an example?
Simply because we do not understand how they got better does not mean god did it.
    Correlation does not imply causation.
I'll use my time to read the bible if there is proof he exists. Otherwise, I'm not using it that way.
Your English is quite good :)
    And nice post.

    Wow, this is interesting.
Smart people are fighting, over a pointless topic.
Discussing religion, politics, and other irrational topics are pointless.
People are far to wrapped in the social 'contracts' that they seem to have, and they close their mind to everything else.
They belive what they want to, no matter how stupid.
And Sythe, Where is your evidence that free will is attributable to an entity who's existence is impossible by its very definition

That's true, however, there's ALWAYS a exction that proves the law, or in
this case, existence. Not about the free will, we don't have any.
Everything we do is based on millions of subconscious judgments that we make.
How ever, I have strayed for my point.
We can't prove or unprove anything, people belive what they want to.
Thus, posting those posts is irrational and nulls all of your statements.

    This is fun.

    Define "God".
If you define God to be someone who can do ANYTHING, then you are right. Because he cannot do ANYTHING.. Your example with the rock makes me beleive you are right.
But what if we define god as someone who is able to create the earth and us and anything else that is here.. But he cannot do anything.. because that would not be possible.. But what if he could do ALMOST anything?
If we defined God this way, then your example with the rock would only conclude that God cannot do everything he (or we) wants, but that does not mean that he cannot do what his followers beleive him to have done.

Actually, the whole answer to whether God exists or not must depend on how you define God. So, how would you define God in a reasonable way, Sythe?

You can't say that God doesn't exist based on the irrationality of mainstream religions, i.e. Christianity. There is no singular definition to what and how God is, so disproving one doesn't disprove all of them.

I think what Sythe meant was that

1 Reality is the same for everyone
    2 Using logic is acceptable
3 How logical and true something is depends on if it fits in with what we know as reality

Please correct me if i am wrong

You have completely ignored the entire point of this thread and forum..

You cannot say 'the bible is true, therefore' because:

    1. You have no proof that the Bible, or God, is real.
