    Quick Question

Simple, I'm getting a i7 6core extreme processor, 8gb's of ram, and a rampage 3 processor. Would it be possible for me to assemble all of this by myself? Connecting it to my sound cards etc.

    Quick Question

What? I'm unsure of what you're asking. If you buy compatible parts, yes they will all go together and you will be able to build your PC. Not sure what you mean by connecting something to your sound cards either, please elaborate?

Btw, 2600k is basically on par with the 990x and is $700 cheaper, plus the chipsets on the 1155 socket are much better imo (Z68 specifically)

If you need help picking compatible parts, I can help you and so can many of the other people who frequent this forum. Give me a budget and I can put together whatever you need (with links etc) for your particular needs

I know what I need. I'm getting it all from the local store. From there, the 990x extreme best model is £600, and the motherboard is £200. That's cheaper than I can find anywhere on the internet. I've also pre-bought sound cards and a gfx card I meant, are they easy to get onto my new motherboard?

    Quick Question

Yeah I know I'm saying the 2600k and 990x are essentially on par with each other minus a very very slight advantage to the 990x in stuff like encoding. I'm not like trying to say that the 990x sucks or anything, just that I think 1336 is a dead socket and the extra $700 isn't worth the like 10% bonus to a limited number of applications. Do what you think you need / can afford though, up to you, just trying to save you some money :p

Yeah installing anything into the PCIe slots is pretty easy. All you have to do is remove the appropriate expansion slot(s) from the back of your case and put it into the correct slot (should be fairly obvious, PCIe won't fit in anything but PCIe etc) and just make sure if it requires supplemental power from the psu to plug it in.

    Okay thanks :)
I'm purely getting the 6 core one, as my parents have offered that me, if I buy the rest. I'm not saying anything unless they get pissy.

I'd go with an 1155 socket. Just because it's newer and you can expect to see a whole line or more of new and faster than ever processors. Definitely a 6 core on that socket. It's worth the wait.

Can you link me to this socket thing? it's 6 core, and when is it out? Also, what is the price, and is it upgradeable?

    Quick Question

There aren't any 6 cores out on the 1155 socket yet, but there surely will be when Ivy Bridge starts rolling out sometime in 2012. Btw since it seems like you're unaware, a socket isn't like a component or anything, it's just the type of CPU your motherboard supports. For example 1336 sockets support older chips like the 990x, 980x, 975, 920, etc. 1155 supports the 2500k and 2600k (among other chips, but those are the flagship chips)

1155 is newer, more expandable (Ivy Bridge will be using the 1155 socket) and the prices are WAY better. 2600k isn't far off of the 990x in terms of performance (even does better in some scenarios, usually within a 5% margin one way or the other) and the 2600k is like 30% of the price of the 990x. That and you just have so much more available on the Z68 chipset like SRT, iGPU for faster video encoding, etc. The only thing that would even come close to being a deal breaker for me is the fact X58 can use triple channel RAM, but personally that isn't enough of an incentive for me with all the pros of the 1155 socket considered. Not to mention the fact that Sandy Bridge overclocks SO well in comparison to anything we've seen in the past. It's nothing to hit 5GHz on air with Sandy Bridge.

Btw, more cores does not = more performance. There are VERY few programs out that can even take advantage of 6 physical cores tbh, most programs aren't even optimized for 4 cores yet.

Is the socket an alternative to the Processor then?
    confused XD

    Quick Question

If you go with the 6core processor either get 6gigs of ram(3 sticks) or 12gigs of ram(3 or 6sticks) as it's slightly faster on this socket.

If you go with what Ivy linked, 8gig is the normal.

As for assembling it, you can either pay a computer store to do it(usually around $50 depending where you live) or you can look up youtube videos.

The thing Ivy linked to is a lot better, and there future processors named Ivy Bridge, will be 6&8cores.
But the 2600k will last a decent while.

    Quick Question

Do you at least understand the advantages of Sandy Bridge (i7 2600k in this case) & the 1155 socket? I just don't want you to invest in socket 1336 and the 990x just to have buyers remorse because SB is, for the most part, better :x
