So right around a year ago I was medically disqualified from joining the Navy. I fought it and they then sent me to a military psychiatrist and she told the board that she didn't think i should join. (something along those lines, idk exactly) It was stated, due to: Major Depression.

When i got the letter from them i was a mess. That was all i had wanted to do for the past 2 years. And even after fighting it as long and as hard as i could i still lost. I had a letter from the doctor that said i had depression stating that he believes that it was just due to young age and puberty. ( i was 15 at the time when he prescribed meds for it) And i only took them form around 6 months because i didn't think i needed them.

I've been thinking recently to try and fight the decision again, and get a second opinion from a different psychiatrist. I just don't feel complete. like i am missing a part of my life.

If you feel you should try and fight it and that's what is in your heart then I say go for it. The worst thing they can say is no. But you need to remember that there is that chance that they will say no and you need to be able to handle that and brace yourself for it.

15 is still very young. Just chill and do your best at school for a little while and then re-apply.

If you feel like your life has changed in the past five years, I would get a second opinion from a new psychiatrist. It sounds like the main reason you were declined was due to depression, do you feel as if you are in the same state you were previously? Getting a second opinion and going through your options is always something good to do, especially if you're ultimate goal is to join the Navy. It's a major commitment, and I can understand your point of view on how your life is missing something without the Navy being a part of it. Try explaining this when getting a second opinion, and your psychiatrist should be able to help you with that.

    Best of luck.

I have some deep rooted goals in the military as well, so I can feel for you. I'm not sure that they'll take a second psychiatrist's opinion after you've already been denied the first time. Try and talk to your recruiter and have them help you. If they wont help you, find a better recruiter.

The most important thing is that you feel that you've changed, though. If you are depressed, I'm not so sure that it's a good idea to join the military. Joining is very tough and may make your depression worse. If you don't feel healthy, please reconsider for a bit and focus on your health. Don't feel like you're in a rush, you've got until you're 34 to enlist. Take time for yourself if you need it and try again.

Military is good but if you aren't qualified or they just don't want you to be inside it's because they have their own reasons. Don't quit trying it and if I learned something from life is that you must fight for what you want. Don't give up and try.

I'm not trying to sound harsh or anything, but if you give up just trying to get into the military, you shouldn't be in it.

If they're not letting you in because you're medically depressed then show them the determination you have and the time you're willing to put in to get better and resolve your personal issues. Maybe stay away from telling them that the Navy is all you want to do with your life and without the Navy you're lost and basically have nothing. Find some other goals and work towards a life outside of the Navy then go back and let them know all about your work and life changes and that you're happy without the Navy but are still interested in joining as a step into your adult hood and not as a way out.

Maybe they're scared how you will deal with the training and combat or any tough situations for that matter. Have you ever been suicidal?

Woah, that's really harsh, just because someone has depression means they can't do something? My dad was in the navy for 8 years and the first time he applied he didn't make it because of the mental test and he waited a year then he made it in, he improved his life for the better because he knew he wanted to be in the navy.

Just do what you need to do to give yourself the right head space, and best of luck! My dad said the navy beats the army x100 because you get to travel and you're not just stuck in one place, plus you get food + bed + your pay~ The pay is also really good, so just keep at it, don't let this put you down.

Who're you to judge who and who can't join the military? Everyone's aloud dreams and goals. If you don't succeed the first time, try, try again!

This has truth to it even though it has nothing to do with the situation. I'll keep in mind that you didn't read this thread correctly and just skimmed through it and then replied. Let me give you the understanding to this situation so you can feel a little bit different about him, he's not giving up, he's trying his best but they gave up on him and now he still wants to join but they basically have no interest in him.

There is a reason for that, when i was in bootcamp we had kids saying they were going to commit suicide to get out and such and so forth. If you have depression now it will only increase when you get in the military because they treat you like shit. but i heard navy bootcamp was easy. you learn how to fold clothes and walk for a couple miles. army infantry bootcamp is very difficult. 11b babby

Joining the military is a tough decision to make even if you're accepted or not accepted. Think about it..
