If we consider someone of 100 years to have a lot of wisdom and knowledge, imagine if somewhere in the universe there are beings that are thousands of years old. what if there are beings that are hundreds of thousands of years old and each individual being was as big as one of our earth. just a crazy thing to think about. the way i think about it is like an ant to a human. lets say an ants whole life is in your backyard. he's incredibly small compared to you, and his intelligence is almost nothing compared to even the stupidest human. he couldn't even fathom what is outside of his world and what it could be. maybe it's the same with us. maybe our "universe" is just the aunt's "backyard". pretty interesting if you ask me. post your ideas and opinions and i'll respond to em. thanks.

Yes. Ofc this is something to consider. It is a very basic thought process that should be encouraged in the world today. Most ignorant idiots on this planet do not even get as far as thinking like this. This is why i am depressed. I applaud your critical thinking, and never stop trying to think of scenarios such as this.

That is why many schools are promoting critical thinking and thinking outside the box.

Back to topic, if there are such beings of ancient age then it is perhaps very wise and knowledgeable. And imagine thousand of such beings living together, that's the technologically advanced species we as humans have been trying to contact.

this is why religions like christianity don't really make sense. i mean they say it's faith but why does their whole religion go against all logic and everything that we know. saying that theres this one god and that he created everything is hard to piece together for me.

Anyone who makes ANY claim must provide you with evidence.

I agree that religion has stood in the way of technological advance for the majority of recorded human history.

Statistically, it would be more probable for other intelligent life of exist in the universe. The fact that anyone would think otherwise is a conceited view of humanity.

Nothing reveals human conceit better than the vastness of the cosmos.

You mention about how we are tryinh to contact any advanced civilization out there. But you think this is a good idea? As Steven Hawkins said "We are the Native Ameticans and they the Europeans..." If you know some history you know that the natives were very much overpowered.
The only difference is they did not tried to contact them as we are.

What are you even talking about. I think you're misunderstanding his quote. I don't think there exists sentient life in space. We have not found a planet with conditions conducive to supporting life. Until we have done so, I'll continue to maintain my beliefs.

    Interesting thought.

Ever seen the film "The Man From Earth"? Has relevance here. :)

This is something that you really need to think about, who knows what is out there for one. Also if something out there is able to contact us then they must know much more than us, also they must have some crazy technology. But on the other hand any life on other planets out there might not even be smart enough and lack any type of intelligence to ever contact us.

Or perhaps it is not that we have not found them, maybe they are hidding from us.

    This made me laugh.

Why would an ultra-advanced race of sentient beings want to hide from a much lesser civilization? We aren't even a stage 1 civilization...

Chances are there is another civilization out there somewhere, but if you consider for a second the millions of light years there are between star systems and any local system doesn't have a Goldie Locks planet then there is no way we could have contacted them or they us. If they are there and have broadcast in some signal we can hear then they are probably long extinct by now.

Do not want to deal with our human stupidity? Who knows... Maybe preparing an invasion of some sort even.

This isn't even an intelligent reason. I believe this topic has went over you head.

Consider for a moment - a civilization that is advanced enough to achieve inter-system transportation means would have no use with a civilization such as ours. We are babies, and if they were a several billion year old civilization they would have no reason to contact us they wouldn't care - we would be completely useless to them. They would waste more resources invading a lesser civilization than they would gain by invading.

I don't study astronomy but I believe there are other beings out there. Sure you could say we have no proof of them so it is more likely they don't exist, but think of it this way:

Our star, one planet with life on it.
200 to 400 billion stars in our galaxy.
3000 visible galaxies, estimates around 100 billion.

I don't want to do the math but think of all the planets suitable for life, and remember that our world is a young one.
Going by those estimates doesn't it make MUCH more sense that other life does exist outside our Solar System?

Anyways I like thinking outside the box like this, maybe I'll think up a comic about beings from outside our Solar System (original though. And I don't read much sci-fi).

Read it. It is highly interesting and has changed my view on life outside of the earth. If there is life, it is going to be incredibly few and far between. It takes a very specific set of conditions that happen extremely rarely to create carbon based life forms.

That is what I said, you simply complexed words...

"a civilization that is advanced enough to achieve inter-system transportation means would have no use with a civilization such as ours." = "They"

"We are babies, and if they were a several billion year old civilization they would have no reason to contact us they wouldn't care - we would be completely useless to them. They would waste more resources invading a lesser civilization than they would gain by invading." = "Do not want to deal with our human stupidity"

Thanks for making it clear enough for anyone to understand now, though.

Human stupidity is different than being a waste of resources or just a physical impossibility; they aren't hiding they just don't give a damn, but suggesting that they are hiding from us is just a silly notion. It would take thousands of years to get to earth if they launched ships now, but chances are they haven't launched a mission to the earth because it still looks uninhabited because they are seeing it as it was thousands of years go. So chances are they just don't know we are here unless they have mega-super-ultra-massively high powered telescopes that can see past what is generally visible.
