if america failed, how and why would it happen?

we all know the us government is in a shithole right now. the fiscal cliff, some huge issues that could quite possibly start mass riots...
nobody really knows what could happen at this point. now, i doubt that the united states is going to go into a civil war, but things could get pretty sketchy.

what i want to know is...what do you think will happen? and how? mainly, if the government collapsed, how and why do you think that would happen?

what issue do you think would be the tipping point? also...what would you do?

if i had to pick a major issue that would be the tipping point...i would say gun control. obviously, something huge would have to happen, such as a complete ban on all firearms for something absolutely devastating to happen, but i think those are it.

im sure that if all guns were banned, gun rights activists would lose it. they wouldnt want people taking thier guns, and im sure some would fight to the death to keep them. not to mention that with no guns to protect anyone, im sure criminals would have a field day. they dont have registered firearms anyways... and dont bring up other countries that have a ban on all guns. no other country has the kind of street gangs the us has, or at least not as many.

and im sure through some stretch of events chaos would ensue. im pretty much 100% sure guns will never be completely banned. but if it did happen, i think that would cause to many problems for the us government to handle.

also, i would go to australia. i just think it would be cool.

I think America is far from any sort of government collapse. I have no idea what to expect when it comes to gun control. I think it's kind of ridiculous. Honestly drugs are illegal and yet millions of people still have access to them. Whether they are illegal or not, nothing is going to stop someone who wants to get their hands on them.

Now if we ban guns, then lets ban all the other things that are to be blamed for highly public shootings. Lets ban Goth culture, Marylin Manson, Shooting Video Games, Some music, er can't think of anything else right now. I strongly believe people kill people, not guns. I can always take a sword or a knife and STILL kill another person, does that mean we need to ban them too?

 

Well i happen to be very informed on this topic so to start out, the fiscal cliff (no longer exsits) so we can go ahead and forget that part since they already fixed that a few days ago. With that being said i'd like to add that i belive IF there is a collapse of any kind the only causes would be either, Weapons ban (causing Americans to realize that they're right's are being taken away, thus causing a civil war, basically citizens who care enough to go against the government vs the government), Or since the U.S likes to get involved with every problem in every country as soon as it happens, global terrorism will occur and will branch out to the "gullible and stupid americans" and convince them that they're ideas are pure and to join their cause.

and if they do take the guns away the only thing that will do is cause the real criminals who don't follow the laws and rules who do have access to guns because they're guns are not registered will take advantage of the fact that real hard working honest citizens no longer have protection for their familes....can't even imagine what would happen...home invasion...rape..robbery would all go up because the criminals would know honest americans no longer have protection.

 

sorry, this isnt a debate about gun control. although i agree with you 100%, that isnt the issue were discussing. were discussing what you think would happen if the government collapsed, and how that would happen. just because i think that a ban on guns would destroy the us doesnt mean i support it...

 

I think that if the US government collapses, it will definitely be because of money. The US (arguably) has the best and well funded military power in the world. I personally think that the US will follow in Rome's footstep and have an economic collapse rather than a military/invasion collapse. Rome had the best military, advanced cities, and technology at the time. They were geniuses; We base our cultures and cities off them. Sewers underground, Police Squads, Firefighters, etc. I really hope it doesn't collapse like Rome did. Although I do consider gun control extremely important for our rights, I also believe that abortion, racial profiling, and all the stupid other protest needs to take a seat until we fix our economic problems.

I would move to Canada because Canada has pretty much the same culture as the USA. <-- That is considering if Canada doesn't end up like us too.

If the U.S. government collapses, as stated earlier, I'm fairly certain it will be due to monetary issues. That's not to say they won't take much of society with them on the way down. They will try everything possible to maintain control of the citizens. Gun control, curfews, raising taxes on lifestyles they deem 'dangerous' or outright banning them (ie, NYC soda ban), martial law, etc...
Everybody wants the government to fix the problems we have today without realizing that the government intervention is the cause of many of them.

I feel there really are only two alternatives left:

1) The government acts similarly to the previously stated, getting more aggressive as time goes on. (Could happen quickly, or drawn out.)

2) People start holding their representatives accountable for their actions and voting records. There is a growing number of representatives out there that are trying to give the power back to the people, however they are disciplined by their superiors for "going against the grain". (The problem with this scenario is that even though the representatives are doing their best, the people still need to get off their asses and contact their representatives and let them know what they think... good luck with that.)


If there would be a collapse I believe that communities would band together and maintain order themselves to prevent corrupt militias/cartels/gangs from imposing their rules. This is not a revolutionary idea either... for example, it is happening in Mexico right now.

Then again, I'm just rambling...

 

Ah someone brought up money problem being a possible fall to america, and I totally agree with that. They interfeer within every and any possible country they can, and wars and all those things cost huge amount of money that they just cannot afford to waste...

 

If anything, I vote for obesity.

I don't really remember what the exact statistics were, but wasn't it like 20-30% of Americans were over-weight/obese? Soon, almost 80-90% of Americans would be obese and then the entire American popular will all be crowed onto this one side of the east and throw the planet's rotation off balance and send us all hurtling into the dark reaches of the galaxy. Afterwards, we'll be invaded by unknown aliens who will probe our men's ball sacks to steal our future babies they believe we have hidden in there. By stealing our future babies, our fate as humankind have been sealed, and we would only have maybe another 60-70 years left to survive before we all completely die out.

But no, seriously, I would probably figure something with debt issues. America has shit tons of debt but what do they do? Take out loans from China or something and then give the money to third world countries and make themselves look good. Basically, America is pretty much giving away money they don't have continuously.

 

It would probably be the DEBT the US Owes , im just waiting for the Government to try and pull something on the citizens such as gun ban or taking some sort of right we have

 

I don't think the USA would collapse but we do owe alot of money to other countries. I mean shit we are fine where we are right now.

 

the US is going to be fine, but if anything were to happen it would be the result of the debt its amassed

Capitalism is sick, and is itself they key to its own demise. A system that relies on the exploitaion of the more ignorant and populated class can't effectivly self-substain forever. Wars are proof of capitalism reaching the verge of colapse. As the proletariat become aware of this struggle between classes they will rise against the opressing class.
