yes it has, the orginal christmas was the birth of jesus but now its the day santa comes to ur place and not to rob you but give free presents.

 

Jesus wasn't actually born on Christmas day, you know. That date was adopted to make the transition easier for pagans, who celebrated the winter solstice.

 

I prefer Christmas to be completely commercialized. The meaning behind it isn't as important to me.

Then again, I grew up thinking that Xmas was Santa's birthday.

 

People will try to use anything to use something popular, to their advantage. For example, stores like Walmart says "Come buy the Big Guy(husband for this sense) a new television for Christmas!". Though like Shredder explained, the day isn't the exact time where he was born. I celebrate Christmas not because I believe he was born on that day, but to my belief that he was born.

I believe it is not going to be any better years on, in my opinion(not at a rapid rate, but slowly).

So are you trying to attack anyone? You said "Prefer", rather than "I don't care if it was commercialized".

 

I meant what I said. The commercial aspects of Christmas are important to me - the giving, the receiving, the time off perhaps.

So I care about the -mas part of Christmas.

 

Then why is dec 25th christmas, why not the day he was born?

I love it when people say that Christmas is the celebration of Jesus's birth. Gives me a warm feeling and makes me alittle light headed from yelling at them.

 

yes i think its completely commercialized some company's already refuse to use the word Christmas, its ridiculous people say that they arnt Christians so they don't like the word Christmas, then dont celebrate it!!!!!!!

 

XD it starts somewhere in November with the X-mass stuff. So yeh way to commercial.

alright, ill cut the crap: the germanians had this party, where they celebrated the new year, decorated trees, and made noise, because the cristian church knew everybody was still celebrating that, they thought it would be a great idea to say that christ was born during that event.

as for santa claus, he is just a cheap ass fake commercial rip-off of the Dutch Sinterklaas:


those black dudes are "zwarte pieten", black petes, they help Sinterklaas.
(note to all hippies: this is not racist, those are white people, painted black, and it is for children, they are not slaves, they just help Sinterklaas)

And I do think Christmas is too commercial, because everything now is all about expensive presents, newest toys (iPod, PS3, xbow360, etc...) and the most expensive perfumes.
I work in a supermarket, and you can really see the commercial effect of christmas, no baby jesus in a craddle, no just christmas trees and santa claus.
I hate it.

 

Yes, christmas has become to commericail. But it's not like you can change anything. It's a high time for spending so obviously every store is going to try do commericalize christmas to make money.
