If you read, they offer burstable + customizable packages. The price is from unneeded HDD space + Bandwidth. You can ask them to give you a custom VPS which comes out to be a lot cheaper. i.e - 512mb VPS optimized for botting comes out to be $8.95 + free setup. So effectively, on the 512mb customized package, you're paying for 512mb guaranteed RAM + 512mb extra burstable RAM (total of 1GB) for $8.95 - plus they set it all up for you if you want them to. Kindly think before you bash.

Have fun running a bot on 512 mb of RAM lol. and it's still extremely expensive- 1 GB dedicated is $14.95 at rsbotvps + you get 2GB burstable (total of 3gb if you can't add those 2). Plus it's a given that it's set up for botting at rsbotvps XD

FYI, harddrives don't cost anything and therefore you can get a very large amount of space for very little from most providers.

And that information is not publicly displayed on their website, so how can you tell me to "think before I bash"

Kindly don't be ignorant and you won't make yourself look stupid.

Direct quote from Evolucix's "About Us":

We intend to provide our users with "smart services" - services tailored for end user needs with unrivaled support to back it up. We treat our clients as part of the family, giving each one the attention and care needed to expand and grow.

Also, HDD's are actually rather expensive (non-SAS. I don't know any host that uses SAS for hosting nodes). And RAID10 configurations are rather expensive as well. Burst.net saves money because they don't give you the full network node. Instead, they give you a non-fairshare amount of networking speed + CPU cycles, hence why half the population who know anything about servers is pissed as hell at burst. Also, if you take a look at any company's ToS if they're offering a huge amount of disk space/bandwidth, you'll notice a little clause that allows them to close your account if you use "unreasonable amounts". Companies that offer "unlimited bandwidth" or "unlimited disk space" are notorious for this, because its physically impossible to offer either of those.

Fact of the matter is, you get what you pay for in the hosting industry. These prices are fair, and there hasn't been a single bad testimonial about Evolucix, so I don't quite see why you have your panties in a bunch.

I certainly haven't found any bad reviews about evolucix. Then again, I haven't found any spendthrifts that purchased a service from there.

It is true that you often get what you pay for in the hosting industry. However, people still pay too much when a site overcharges.

-HDD's are not expensive. It's not an opinion, it's a fact. They're cheap as hell
-RAID10 might be more expensive than other RAID setups but it's still cheap. What does the "I" in RAID stand for? And don't say independent.
-Yes, BurstNet oversells and only guarantees a fraction of what a user purchases. I'm not here to fight for burst- they have low prices and poor services. Still, that doesn't mean I support a host that has very high prices and decent services.
-Obviously it is impossible to provide literally "unlimited" b/w and space. Outside of fairyland, people use the word "unlimited" when you won't actually reach the limit. It still means a shit load.

Support is definitely valuable- I can't argue that. Of course, it's laced up with a bunch of bullshit about it being super smart but once again that's fine- just marketing anyway.

I'm not out to defame evolucix...simply to point out that users may be getting what they pay for- but they're still paying a very high premium.

Well said, and understandably so. The fact remains that commercial use HDD's are not cheap. At all. SATA is probably the cheapest, due to their large-scale home-use, but for distributed use, SATA is not an option. SAS is getting a bit better, although still not quite there.

    http://www.google.com/products/cata...log_result&ct=image&resnum=4&ved=0CDwQ8gIwAw#

    ^^ 600GB SAS drive @ $428.

Assuming you're going with SAS, and not a more powerful alternative, you're looking at $400-500 for large-sized drives (1TB minimum).
*4 (atleast) for RAID* configuration, you're looking at close to, if not more than $1,000 just for the disk-setup. We haven't even touched on RAM, mobo, processor(s), etc. The price of the product has to somehow cover the cost of the servers. Now I'm not standing up for overly inflated prices, however I'm rather certain that these prices are not at all outrageous - especially if you're looking at mainstream corps.

At the same time, I acknowledge that a provider that specializes in RS botting VPS's may be cheaper, since they don't have the small-business angle in mind (you can substitute SAS< for SATA, since RSbots aren't very HDD intensive, and can purchase smaller amounts of them. Backups aren't an issue and RAID is unnecesary), however I haven't seen a 100% clean review on those companies either. Its a bit of a crapshoot anyways.

Yes, SAS has it's advantages over SATA and of course it costs a lottt more. But almost all hosts use SATA and the differences between SAS and SATA are pretty minimal. There are a ton of ways to make a server or system faster, many of which are considerably cheaper than switching to SAS.

That being said, I don't see any reason to believe evolucix is even using SAS. Considering their dedicated server offerings are SATA I'd be surprised if their VPS's were anything else. I'm not putting them down for using SATA- it's expected and it's very satisfactory. SATA may be great for consumer use but it is also great for most servers.

SAS has faster RPMs, making it more ideal for virtualization (multiple hosts accessing different parts of HDD's in RAID array = many 'read' functions). In order to speed things up, a faster disk has to be used to reduce simple hardware lags. SATA doesn't meet these requirements, and is the lower-tier hard disk currently available (IDE is outdated anyways). Even some desktops have SSD's included.

Regardless, I'm willing to bet that Evolucix uses SAS drives on their boxes. They know what they're doing over there. They probably offer SATA on their dedi boxes because SATA is the standard go-to cheap HDD. If you're looking at more specialized areas such as virtualization, data mining, computational analysis, large SQL pulls, etc., you need fast write speeds.

If you can find me a well established host that uses SATA for virtualization across the board on all of their main nodes, I'll lose all faith in humanity.

If you know how to set one up, then I have one that I obtained the other day. It hasn't been touched at all really. Someone said they were going to help me but didn't. So by all means if you want to use the one I have (If it even works) let me know.

What if I have my own CDKey of windows server 2008 lying ard? Is there any service that allows us to use our own license?
I also realize windows vps are way much more expensive... is it because of the license?
Elastichosts allows you to upload the CD image i think... so u can install using your own media.

I'm using their 5day trail period. And they said that they blocked the runescape ports haha. No wonder my client got stuck at loading/fetching updates. I gave up on CentOS because im so used to Ubuntu spoonfeeding me on my laptops. I decided to run window applications on the vps (not botting anymore) Wine isnt working for me and it's too trouble some to set up.

Any VPS that provide empty boxes/use our own license?

I'd be very surprised if evolucix used SAS because they rent their dedis from tailoredservers which doesn't have any SAS options. Also, SAS is NOT the standard in the server hosting world. Once again, most hosts do not use it. Yes, I do know more than you (about this) =)

I know why SAS is better but people are running businesses here.

I just contacted Evolucix support just to find out, since I myself am curious about what they run. Here's a direct quote from them:

"For VPS hosting, we virtualize boxes that run on this hardware:

    Dual Xeon 5650
    32gb-ddr2-ec ddr2-ecc RAM
    250GB 15K RPM SAS
    250GB 15K RPM SAS
    250GB 15K RPM SAS
    250GB 15K RPM SAS
    250GB 15K RPM SAS
    250GB 15K RPM SAS
    (RAID 10 Configuration)

As far as your question was concerned, yes we do use SAS disks - as faster disks perform better in RAID arrays than average disks. We figured we wouldn't risk performance over price - as we can cover the price of either regardless. Better performance inevitably leads to better service and therefore a more stable and positive client base. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me again."

Contacted Shayan, who's the CEO of evolucix. His e-mail: [email protected]

Ask him yourself if you don't believe me, but that was the response I got. SAS is an industry standard, mate. Everyone who uses SATA w/ RAID end up giving crappy service and thats where you get all the companies that give the industry a bad name.

Typically for that sort of scenario, you'd be looking more into cloud hosting. However, a majority of their images will be on the cloud itself. The only issue I see with your logic in uploading your own image is that in order to do that with a standard VPS, you'd effectively need KVM over IP, so you can view the screen @ boot. Unfortunately that's impossible on a VPS, since the virtualizer deals with the boot ups and boot downs. Honestly, devising a way to get around it wouldn't be worth the ~$10/mo you'd be saving.
