Anti Depressants

So I've been prescribed the highest dosage of some anti depressant that I've been taking for a month now which I won't give the name of and the thing is, my mothers all for it and encourages me to take it whereas my father does not like it at all. He does not believe anything is wrong with me and it's all in my head but I'm kind of in the middle of this whole idea. Any ideas on what path I should take? If it helps I don't really feel like the medicine itself is helping much.

 

The medicine itself can hardly damage you. The suicide rate is there but REALLY REALLY REALLY small..and if it doesn't happen, it won't happen period.

Parents can sometimes disbelieve work of doctors just because they want their kids to be "perfect". To me, I don't see you as very depressed but I don't entirely know you all so well being on the internet and all.

What I would say is TRY the pills. They can't harm you too bad and they can be VERY useful.

 

Try them...you might think that they don't help, but once you quit them you find out that they did help.
Same thing happened with me, it looked like it did nothing until i stopped using them.

 

He said he has been taking them for a month.

Anyway, If you don't think they're working, I say try a different type.

if your stressed or feel depressed, smoke some weed .. enough said.

 

Dont do it. Depressants are hard to get rid of once you have used them for a while.. Ive seen people from my school going nuts after going off them to the point where suicide and other stupitidy comes into mind. Learn to deal with it, everyone has hard times in their lives and one just has to go through it.

 

I might add that anti-depressants can take a LONG time for them to start working. You take them daily and it builds up in your blood system before any of it actually works. You must make sure that you keep on a daily schedule or it will throw it all off.

Talk to your doctor about that he'll explain it more.

 

Yeh i know he uses them for a month....but sometimes it takes 6 to 8 weeks for them to actually work.

No most of them aren't hard to stop from.

That's why you don't stop with them right away. Usually a doctor or psychiatrist helps you with this.

You don't even know his story or how he feels like, so seriously GTFO.

 

if you dont think there working maybe come off them? Were not the people to ask its the doctor you should ask.

 

I never once complained about having a rough life, so please don't put words in my mouth.

 

So your mother finally gave up on you.. Your dads belief's are right. You don't need them. Better off solving problems in another way if you even have any. I've seen you post around. You're a good guy, a hyper/retarded one, but who isn't? it's the way to be.

 

Talk to yourself how do you feel about them. Could you cope without them?
Do you feel this is the only way to bypass your depression?
Doctors are humans don't think of them as super natural people who can see you throughout.

You got to understand yourself.

 

A good friend of mine took Anti-Depressants for a while, and it didn't do anything to him but make him a mindless puppet. The only way to truly deal with depression is to try and occupy your mind enough that it's not extremely distant to the fact that your mindless, but to keep you in that serene state of mind.

I personally smoke Marijuana to keep me in that state of mind when I'm feeling depressed though. You just need to find your method to keep you there as well.

 

It's not up to your father. He's not your doctor, and he's not you. Furthermore, most people don't understand that depression is a real condition that does have physical effects.

If you want to ask about stopping using the drugs or using a different type, do ask the person who prescribed them to you. Different types of things work for different people, but the person who knows best is the doctor who gave them to you.

 

i've gotta agree with your dad. I used to be depressed all the time and now i'm perfect without any anti depressants. it's mind over matter

 

I'm with your dad, anti-depressants can make you clumsy, you probably already know.
If you ever feel hungry and are quite depressed, just go to McDonalds, i know for a fact they put anti-depressants into their food.

 

Dont take that crap. I also guess its also in your head...cmon get over your problems...

 

I honestly recommend some form of therapy alongside the pills, or even without the pills. I've been receiving cognitive behavioural therapy to combat my depression for a few months, and I can honestly say that's made a bigger difference to me than any meds could have.

 

Smoke some weed

I suggest, if your very depressed about something take the anti-depressants, but see a therapist. Therapists are very nice and they help out allot, Do not overdose on anti-d's either. Watch how many you have. If you want to discuss whats wrong, i will happily talk to you. [email protected]
